James Green Jr., of Monticello, went before the Drew County Circuit Court Thursday, facing Judge Randy Wright.

Green was set for a pre-trial hearing in regard to the two rape charges and the terroristic threatening charge he is facing, originating from actions which took place early last December.

There was an order for a mental evaluation of Green to take place, to which Green declared that he didn’t want an outpatient evaluation, but instead a 3 month inpatient evaluation.  Judge Wright wasn’t convinced, and the order remains in the hands of Delta Counseling, with a request for expedited action, since Green remains housed in the Drew County Detention Facility.

Green made several loud outbursts during the hearing, which combined, earned him a total of 4 “contempt of court” charges from the Judge.

(If you’re wondering whether the Judge was just in a bad mood that day, the answer is no.  Reports indicate the every “contempt” charge was appropriate.)

Public Defender Gary Potts was appointed as Green’s attorney, but Green told the court that he prefers to represent himself.

The court agreed to let him do so, but told him that he will be held to the same standards as an attorney would.  Potts will still serve in an “adviser” capacity.

Green’s next hearing is set to take place in April.
