County Judge’s Report – October 29, 2007

At last most parts of the county received some rain!  Although the week was cloudy we only received 1 ½ inches at my house.  It was welcomed though.  Some areas got more.
Last Monday I checked Mammie Martin Road, Dyson Road, Longview Road and Garrett Lane.  Most of the rest of the day was spent in the office as my secretary was out sick.  Mayor Rogers stopped by that afternoon.

Tuesday was spent going between the office and the shop.  It was a messy day also filled with calls and visitors.

Wednesday began on Bulloch Headquarters Road in the southeastern part of the county checking a road problem.

Later I attended the opening worship service of the Twelfth Episcopal District African Methodist Episcopal Church – 134th Session of the South Arkansas Annual Conference.  The meeting was held at Pilgrim Rest A.M.E. Church in Monticello

I extended a welcome from Drew County and Mayor Rogers welcomed them from the city.

The afternoon was filled with office tasks at the courthouse.

Thursday began by checking Sullivan Road, East Mount Zion Road and Midway Route for problem areas.  I also went to South Bowser Road on a call regarding excessive mud pulled on the road by loggers.

Later I attended a Public Facilities board meeting regarding low income housing at UAM.

That afternoon I checked a problem with loggers on Buddy Beaty Road.  I also looked at work done on Bulloch Headquarters Road.

The rest of the day was busy with calls and visitors in the office.  One especially welcome group was a group of 4-H members with a resolution regarding 4-H Week.  They presented me with a 4-H lapel pin.

Friday began by taking fuel to a bushhog operator on Plantersville Road.  Then I took an employee to East Mount Zion Road/N. Garnett Road to finish “sweeping” it.

Most of the rest of the day was busy in the office.  I held one wedding.  Ms Cindy Sistrunk became the bride of Mr. Wesley Lee.  Congratulations to the newlyweds.

Later I went to the landfill to pick up the receipts the week.

Saturday I attended Possum Valley Fun Day and even helped judge the beauty pageant!

That evening we attended the Wyoming Lodge #461of Selma’s annual Awards banquet.  The late Wallace Ridgell was honored.  The event was held at the Selma Community Center.

The road department is still putting finishing touches on the roads surfaced this year and winterizing equipment.

On Monday grader operators checked roads on their routes.  Ditches were cleaned on Bulloch Headquarters Road.

Clean up was begun around the shop.

Tuesday grader routes were still being checked.  Extra loose Class 2 was cleaned up at Green Hill and Ladelle and hauled to the shop.
