Drew County Judge’s Report

The light frost one morning was nice, and it appears we are headed into another dry week.  That will be good for the hunters.  I’ll remind them again to dispose of those carcasses properly; please don’t dump them at bus turnarounds or along the roadways.
Last Monday began by taking a truck from Baxter to Selma.  I had a chance to check some roads in that direction at the same time.
Later I attended an awards ceremony at the Arkansas Forestry Department out on Scogin Drive.  Several volunteer fire departments received grants.  I had a chance to visit with State Senator Jimmy Jeffress and State Representative Eddie Cheatham while there.
The rest of the day was spent between the shop and the office where we were making preparations for the budget meeting to be held later in the week.
Tuesday began at the office.  Later that day I went to court where I was called to jury duty.
That afternoon I went to check a project near Selma before returning to the office for the rest of the day to attend to office chores and meet with visitors.
I also conducted a wedding Tuesday afternoon.  Ms Holly Barrister became the bride of Mr. Josh Kelley.  Best wishes to the newlyweds!
Wednesday began by moving a truck from Rabb Road to Baxter.  Then I went to look at ditching being done on Dyson Road and to check Longview Road and the Jones Loop area.
I returned to the courthouse for office chores.  Later in the morning I received a call from Representative Mike Ross concerning federal legislation just passed.
At noon I attended the MEDC regular monthly meeting where Interim Director Truman Hamilton was introduced.  Best wishes to Director Hamilton.  I have every confidence that he will give his best to the job.
Updates were reported on the Ridgeway project, the airport project, affordable housing initiatives and MEDC’s contribution to the Cornerstone Coalition.
When I returned to the office I had a meeting with a representative from a geo-spatial mapping firm and Drew County Assessor Beth Davis about a future project.  The project will be bid out if it becomes a reality however.
Thursday began early at the shop.  The rest of the day was busy at the courthouse with preparations for the budget meeting, visitors and calls.
Thursday evening the Quorum Court met in its first meeting on the 2008 budget.
Friday began by taking an employee to Ladelle to get the “broom” and brig it to the shop.  I also checked some roads in the area.
Returning to the office I was privileged to swear former sheriff and police chief Tommy Free in to the Criminal Justice Board after his appointment by Governor Beebe.
Office work filled the rest of the day.  I also had to procure chairs for the Veterans Day service held by the American Legion and the DAV on Sunday afternoon.
I was further honored to be asked to hold two more weddings Friday afternoon.  Ms Tammy Taylor wedded Mr. Tony Higgins.  Later Ms Jessica Locke was married to Mr. Mark Hallman.  Congratulations and best wishes to both happy couples!
