Drew County Judge Damon Lampkin To Seek Re-election
Published by News Release January 10th, 2008 in Elections.Drew County Judge Damon Lampkin would like to announce his decision to seek re-election for the office of County Judge in the May Democratic primary.
County Judge Lampkin states that he has worked hard to represent and tend to the needs of all residents of Drew County during his 5 years in office. He has worked on his road plan to build up road beds for paving by establishing a suitable foundation to pave and/or chip and seal those additional roads as weather, road conditions, time and money permit.
He has also worked to repair and maintain those roads that have already been paved or sealed. Several bridges have been replaced or upgraded.
Lampkin has also secured $250,000+ in historic preservation grants to re-roof the courthouse and repair and restore the front porch of the courthouse with no cost to the county.
He has helped in the grant procurement for rural fire departments, many of which have been started during the past 5 years. He has initiated fair disbursement of Act 833 money for rural fire departments.
Grants have also been received for the Drew County Fair Board and from Homeland Security for upgraded radio equipment and security cameras, metal detectors and such to make the courthouse a safer place.
Judge Lampkin affirms that he has a good working relationship with other county officials, the Quorum Court, city officials, city and county business leaders, officials from neighboring counties, the Arkansas Highway & Transportation Department, state legislative members, members of our Congressional team and most certainly the citizens of Drew County.
He is involved in many organizations that promote economic development and growth for Drew County and Monticello, such as the Intermodal Authority, the Cornerstone Coalition, Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District, MEDC and others.
Lampkin attends and participates in any community project or function that relates to the betterment of Drew County and the lives of its citizens. Most recently he participated in the planning, procurement of food, and serving at the 39th Brigade’s Appreciation Dinner.
Some of Lampkin’s main projects for his next term include: continuing to pave new roads while maintaining present roads, paved and graveled; continuing smooth operation of the county sanitation system; continuing to upgrade centerline mapping and enhanced 911 and continuing to serve the citizens of Drew County fairly and within the bounds of the law. The judge does emphasize that some road building work must be prioritized in relation to its benefit for the greater number of citizens and the entire county.
During the last year Lampkin has been fortunate to be able to purchase 70 acres of land adjacent to our present landfill using funds brought in by thinning timber on county property. This acquisition should well satisfy the county’s sanitation/landfill needs for the next 60 years.
Judge Lampkin promises to continue his open door policy and encourages residents to contact him with their concerns. He does listen.
Judge and Mrs. Lampkin attend Second Baptist Church. Both are members of the Drew County Historical Society and recognize and promote the historical significance and importance of Drew County, as well as its other prominent features.
Lampkin is also a 32nd degree Mason in Eureka Lodge #40, F&AM.
Judge Lampkin says,” I am asking you to re-elect me as your county judge. I have worked hard and long for the people of Drew County. I have not set “hours” within which I have worked. I have been on call 24-7. That is the role I think a judge should fulfill. It’s one I’d expect of anyone else. I can do no less myself. I believe I have proven that I have the heart and leadership abilities for service.
I pledge to continue roadwork to improve the lives of our people. I pledge to work with ALL officials and groups to promote the image and economic development of Drew County within in the limits of the law and government regulations. .
I pledge to serve and honor the people of Drew County and the office of County Judge. I am sincerely asking for your vote for Drew County Judge in the Democratic Primary in May.”
