Governor Mike Beebe today declared Drew, Ashley, Calhoun, Chicot, Garland, Hot Spring, Lincoln, Pulaski, Saline and Van Buren Counties state disaster areas due to damage caused by the remnants of Hurricane Gustav.  Beginning on September 2, three days of storms brought flooding rains and high winds to much of the State.
Along with the declaration, Beebe released $100,000 from the Governor’s Disaster Fund for use by the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management through the Individual Assistance Program.  Arkansans who sustained uninsured damages from the storms may apply for assistance by calling ADEM at 1-877-828-3362 or by contacting their county Department of Human Services office.
“Our state and local agencies did commendable work in helping our citizens while also protecting out-of-state evacuees from Gustav,” Beebe said.  “We are in the heart of hurricane season, so we will continue to monitor additional storms that could impact Arkansas.”
Damage assessments are also ongoing to determine the impact of the storms and flooding on Arkansas crops.  Governor Beebe’s staff is working with U.S. Department of Agriculture officials about the potential for federal assistance once those damages are totaled.
