Drew Central Student Awarded Scholarship To Attend Robotics AcademyMay 29th, 2013 by Submitted
Barrett Hunnicutt, a Drew Central Middle School seventh grade student, has been awarded a full scholarship to attend the Robotics Academy this summer at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Barrett was encouraged by Terri Smith, UAM STEM Science Specialist, to apply for the scholarship.
Barrett responded by submitting a paper on a pilot he would like to meet and what three questions he would ask the pilot. Additionally, he had to create a mission patch that described him and his interests. Barrett and his mother, Dr. Donna Hunnicutt, received confirmation from the U.S. Space and Rocket of Barrett being awarded the full scholarship and are currently making plans to travel to Alabama this summer.
The Scholarship includes tuition, room and board for a weeklong, overnight camp. The Scholarship winners from around the country will be challenged in exciting hands-on sessions in robot chassis design and building, algorithms, remote control design and operation, and aerial drone simulations. Barrett will compete with other individuals in the program for the overall Robotics Award.
