Laken Moore, a 16 year old Junior at Drew Central High School, won the state fair regional competition for vocalists, Thursday night.

Two nights later, she was named the winner in the final competition at Little Rock, and was named as the Arkansas State Fair Winner for Vocal Soloist.

Laken was only a few points shy of being named overall grand champion, over all classes of performers.

Laken won the competition with her rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow”.  Her accompaniment music was her own arrangement of the classic song, played by Laken, and recorded earlier.

Laken’s parents are Edward and Toni Thomas, her grandparents are Bobby and Florene Moore, all of Monticello.

Laken Moore is, of course, in the Drew Central Choir and Madrigals.

She also serves as co-minister of music, with her mom, at Trinity Full Gospel Church, here in Monticello.

Laken plans on going to college, and furthering her education in the fields of forensic science and education.

Congratulations, Laken Moore, for proving that “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”, dreams do come true.
