Drew Central Benchmark Kickoff
April 10th, 2012 by Drew Central SchoolsDrew Central welcomed Arkansas Benchmark Exam Week (April 9-13) with its annual Benchmark Kickoff on Thursday, April 6 at 1:30 P.M. The celebration began with the junior cheerleaders’ motivational chants which spurred on the UAM football players and the third grade class who got into the jive. Fourth grade rocked the house with their chant which was followed by the junior cheer dance to “The Joker.”
Fifth grade shared an original song called “Fireworks”. Caroline Adair, Payton Boykin, and Madison Lasiter created a humorous skit that had the audience in stitches, and they ended with a dance to “Moves Like Jagger”. The Nerd Boy (A.K.A. Coach Curtis) performed a motivational rap and the 7th graders joined in with “I’m Proficient and I Know It”. Melanie Brotherton and April Vincent belted out “Uh-uh-oh…If you’re a DC Pirate then you know it, and if your know it, then you’ll show it. If you know it, then you should get a four on it …” to the cheers and applause of the audience as the junior cheerleaders cut a rug. The finale was a group of Tina Turner Wannabes who turned the song “Proud Mary” (you know— “Rollin’ on the River”) into “Proud Students” (Scorin’ 3’s and 4’s”). Leslyn Jacks sang as her backup dancers/singers boogied and tried to keep from breaking their necks in the tall shoes they all wore. In closing, Joy Graham and Trudy Jackson, principals, encouraged the students and asked them to do their best. A great time was had by all. Drew Central says, “Bring on the Benchmark! We’re Ready!”
