Dog & Owner Taken to Pound & Jail

May 28th, 2009 by

Around 9 o’clock Tuesday morning, a Monticello police officer responded to call in the Tanglewood neighborhood, to assist an animal control officer, who was picking up a loose dog, that had been running loose on multiple occaisions.

While the officer was attempting to write a “leash law” citation,  the man made life-threatening remarks about multiple people, and after a confrontation was placed under arrest.

The man, un-named while other agencies are being contacted, was charged with terroristic threatening, resisting arrest, use of profance or abusive language, and leash law violation.

The man and dog have both been bonded out.

  1. WH says:

THATS WAY TOO FUNNY, ONLY IN SOUTH ARKANSAS! MAYBE BOTH OF THEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN KEPT ON A LEASH!

  2. Tony says:

Glad to see the “Leash Law” being enforced. There are too many dogs left unattended and potential threats to anyone and everyone. Not to mention the destruction to trash and leaving their waste in your yard.

We have had numerous situations of the above mentioned and would WELCOME enforcement. The “owner” should have been kept longer perhaps so maybe the seriousness of the matter would “sink in”.

I have had members of my family nearly attacked, chased back to our home, etc. while walking our dog on a leash. Our neighborhood has been plagued for years with some of the dogs “let out” only to find our bagged trash scattered over the yards. The trash WAS in trash cans but the dogs decided to be destructive. If the owner would have THEIR dog on a LEASH or better yet fence put up around their yard, maybe our trash would not be scattered everywhere.

Again, good job!!! Now lets get around to enforcing the leash law daily with more follow up.

  3. Drew says:

Excuse me, ONLY in South Arkansas? Really?

  4. Kay says:

    Doggone it!!! LOL….

How much was the bail for the dog? LOL

    and for the owner?

Embarrassing for the owner’s family, I am sure, but VERY funny to everyone else….

  5. JM says:

NOT FUNNY!!!! The man is a soldier who has served two tours in Iraq, and has come home with severe PTSD. Don’t be too quick to judge a person. The dog is an old black lab that is a child’s pet and only one person has filed the multiple complaints. This man is my brother and his life will never be the same, yet I live as I always have because of soldiers like him who sacrificed so much for our country. I understand he is under the same law as we are in this town, but if you knew what he has gone through, you might respond to this a little differently.

  6. J.H. says:

MM The man and the dogcatcher went to school together the man didn’t have a problem with him taking the dog. The dogcatcher didn’t want to take the dog because the mans four year old son was hugging her around the neck and saying you can’t take my dog. As far as I know the dog has to stay in the pound until the court case. I just hope she doesn’t greive herself to death she an old dog.

  7. WH says:

I agree that he is a hero, as are all who have served. I have a family member who just recieved his 3rd Purple Heart from his tour in Afghan. My grandfather, father and myself have served in the military. Everyone who has worn a uniform is a hero.

That said, that uniform includes the ones worn by our local heros, police, fire and rescue. Serving in harms way over seas is a tremendous sacrifice to the individual and his family and he deserves respect and I regret my earlier comment. But those of us who still wear a uniform to protect the freedoms at home won through sacrifice in other countries deserve the same respect from those returning home, not to be treated with contempt, cursed and fought with and to have our lives and families lives threatened because he didnt think he should abide by the laws made by the people that we try to enforce.

My nephew is having the same problems this young man is having but is some where recieving the help alot of the returning soldiers are getting.

  8. Carlos Garrison says:

That is so dange funny How? I wonder

  9. Joanne says:

This does not have anything to do with being a veteren. Veteran’s get special treatment given to them by the United States government. They get free medical services, pensions, excellerated services at local, state and federal agencies, they use commissaries, they get loans for school and homes and many, many other services that ordinary people do not have. But what they do not get is the right to abuse the laws that other citizens have to follow. They do not have the right to take other’s property to use as their own which is what these people have done with these dogs. They have used our neighborhood, for 4 years, as their dog pen. Veterans are supposed to honorable

  10. Bob says:

“They have used our neighborhood, for 4 years, as their dog pen”

That’s funny.. the key word here is ‘our’. It’s his neighborhood too. You say that like he doesn’t even live there. Who is ‘they’? You mean your ‘neighbor’? I’m glad I’m not in the city. They claim pouring water on a person is torture, yet rapping a chain around a dog’s neck is not! I could never chain my dog up, that is cruel. Where’s PETA! Anyway, who’s paying for the dog now, while in the pound. Some dogs are simply not house dogs, why not just ban dogs altogether, in ‘your’ neighborhood. Get those pesky birds and coons while your at it.

You can always tell who the liberals are by their comments.

  11. sue says:

no matter…. it’s still funny to me ….serious note if you are his brother take him to the VA and get him on the right meds.ASAP jmo

  12. K says:

I obviously don’t find the amusement in this. The dog was in his OWN YARD playing with the owners four year old son. I may be wrong, but how many other people in this town have played with their dog in their own yard without their dog on a leash? And the “tactics” that were used on this man were a little obsurd considering the situation. Because from what I know, this is not the entire story. Don’t judge and make petty comments unless you are well informed of the situation in it’s entirity. And shame on the neighbor who called “tattled” on such a petty offense.

  13. CPLL says:

Joanne apparently you are not aware of what “benefits” vets receive. I can assure you from first hand experience that most of the things listed above, if any, are received when certain criteria are met. Years served, severity of injuries, rank, etc. How dare you talk about a vet being not honorable, when you yourself have most likely not sacrificed an ounce what a vet has. I live possibly closer to this gentleman’s house than anyone else in the entire neighbor hood. I will certainly vouch for him being a great neighbor, father, friend, husband, and fellow solider. There have been multiple times that I have had problems that he has went far out of his way to help me with. Yes his dog gets out every now and then, as does anyone who has owned a dog for very long. They have never chewed anything in my yard, or tore into my trash, at the very most they were in my yard trying to play with my children. WH, As far as your uniform comment, I agree that the boys in blue serve a great need in our community, I would hate to think of our society without these brave men, but to place them in the same category as the those who have served across seas is extremely disrespectful to not only the vets returning from Iraq and Afgan, but also to our grandfathers. I hope the best to those involved, and hate that it was so publicly made a mockery of.

  14. just wondering? says:

Was there any reason to think he was going to hurt anyone? I have heard of the freedom of speech. I don’t agree with the threating of people but was he armed? did he take a swing at anyone? I just know that some of the things I have said in anger was just words and words have never harmed anyone!!

  15. J.H. says:

hey, tony it might have stray dogs in your trash tanglewood is in the city limits but the rest of barkadas not, there’s no leash law in the county.

  16. WB says:

He is on meds and hes tring to do all the right things hes suppose to.But because of all the trips to Little Rock they are not home alot. He doesn’t just let his dogs run wild. he has built adog pen inside his backyard its electrified, one dog is on a chain on a runner in the backyard. He did all this to try and keep his dogs in the yard and somehow they still get out. He thinks sometimes someone has to be letting them out.Especailly when their not home.I know I have driven by and seen the dog out and put itback in the yard. I’ve even took a neighbors dog home that was in their yard and put in back in their yard because they weren’t home either. Thats what I thought good neighbors did instead calling the dogcatcher all the time. Now if the dog was mean or mistreated I would call the pound , because that would be a good neighbor too, not because a dog got out you can’t watch them 24/7.

  17. A.M. says:

I just wanted to say thank you for all the coments on this matter. I am the owner of the dog and I just would like to be left alone. I see now that me and my dogs are not welcome in “Your” neighborhood, so I will be getting rid of them by next week and as soon as the va finalizes my disability I myself will leave you with “your” neighborhood.

    Sorry for all the trouble.

  18. cindy says:

Thank you military for all you do or have done when defending our country. But however that has nothing to do with letting your dog run loose. And to whomever said the dog was in the yard WRONG the dog was down the street when the dog catcher arrived on many many trips. As far as playing with the dog in the yard I can see no problem with that BUT once its on the street its against the law. This is not the only dog that has been picked up for not being on a leash however this is the only dog that was picked up while the owner was making threats to officers and the dog catcher. The law is a dog must be on a leash inside the city limits and that applies to EVERYONE regardless what you do or have done in the past.

To Bob you don’t have to put your dog on a chain you can put it in your yard with a fence and let it run around all day & night long.

To JM I appreciate your brother for what he has done but they doesn’t mean he can break the law just like nobody else can. If everyone could break the law because they did something good for someone then why do we have laws. Once again even if the dog is old it still have to be on a leash or in a fence. Old people don’t have the right to break the law neither does old dogs.

To K the dog was not in his own yard!!!!

To CPPL I very much disagree with your comment about the men in blue they don’t go overseas but I know they serve 365 days a year so I will put them in the same category. I think when they are there to help you and or your family you will put them in the same category as well. God counts sin as sin there is none worse than the other with that said what the awesome officers do daily is just as important as military, doctors teachers etc. I have full respect for police officers that leave their homes everyday and say goodbye to the family not knowing if they will return when the shift is over or not. I also respect every military person just the same and would not take anything away from that.

To JH you are so right there is no leash law in the county I just hope you teach your dog before he leaves home where the county & city limit line is so he/she will know where they can and can not go without being on a leash. If he wonders into the city limits the same law will apply as city pet owners.

Last but not least A.M. I have heard nothing negative only good things about you being a good neighbor, father and friend. The only complaint is the loose dog. that doesn’t make you a bad person. Its your neighborhood to!! Good luck in the future and thank you for what you have done for OUR country..
