The Desha/Drew Cattlemen’s Association met July 19, 2012, at the UAM Agriculture Building. President Jason Cater opened the meeting with the blessing of the food. The 45-50 members and guests enjoyed a supper of grilled hamburgers and ice cream provided by Delta ACA Farm Credit of Dermott and Monticello.

Dr. Cater introduced Bryan McDuffie, manager of Delta ACA Farm Credit, who invited us to consider checking with him about our financing needs. Our next speaker was Dr. Tom Troxel, U of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture, who presented a slide show concerning cattle management during a drought. Dr. Troxel also mention a new blog developed to distribute information in a timely and efficient manner to livestock producers with email. The Arkansas Cattlemen’s State Convention will be held August 10th-12th at the convention center in Fort Smith. All members are encouraged to attend this, as well as our next meeting, August 16th.
