DCE student recognized by Scholastic

Fourth grade students at Drew Central Elementary entered a writing contest that was featured in the October edition of the Storyworks magazine by Scholastic. To enter the contest the students read an article about “newsies” who went on strike in 1899 and then wrote a paragraph about whether being a “newsie” was a good job for a kid. Out of

Of all the students who entered the contest all across the United States, only ten paragraphs were chosen. Of these ten, David Crook’s paragraph was chosen based on the great job he did organizing his ideas and using information from the article in the magazine. For winning the contest, David was presented with a complimentary book Kids on Strike by Susan Campbell Bartoletti on which the article in the magazine was based. David is a student in Mary Hobbs’s fourth grade classroom at Drew Central Elementary.
