County Judge’s Report

This weekend has been very cold!  I’m just grateful it was dry!!  Last Monday began at the courthouse checking the heat.  Overnight and on weekends we turn the thermostat down since we are on a boiler system to conserve energy and save taxpayers’ dollars.  I generally go up about 6:30 a.m. to turn the heat up for the day’s business.
Then I took trips down South Allis Road, Wilmar Loop, Sullivan Road, Dickson Road and Stafford Road checking general road conditions.
The rest of the morning was busy in the office.
Monday afternoon I made a trip down West Lacey Road to talk with a logger.  Returning calls and office work filled the rest of the day.
Monday night the Quorum Court met in a grievance hearing.
Tuesday began as usual and then I helped move a truck for a grader operator from Hwy 133 to Rabb Road.  Office work consumed the rest of the morning.
Tuesday afternoon I moved a truck from Sullivan Road to Ladelle.  Helping move the trucks frees road department employees for other tasks and gives me a chance to se the roads for myself.
The rest of Tuesday was busy in the office.
Wednesday began at the courthouse before going to check Mt. Tabor Road, Florence Road, Selma Collins Road and roads in the Collins area.
Then I returned to the office for paperwork and calls before attending the Intermodal Authority meeting.  Office work and returning calls filled the afternoon hours.
Thursday began at the courthouse checking the heat before I went back to Florence Road and Mt. Tabor Road to check some pipes before returning to the office.
Later the mayor and I attended the Southeast Arkansas Economic Development District meeting in Pine Bluff.  The meeting consisted mainly of reports on existing projects, new projects, unemployment statistics and other business matters.
This meeting was followed by the Southeast Arkansas Regional Solid Waste Management Board meeting.  This, too, was mainly filled by staff reports, updates on recycling grants and other business matters.
When I returned to Monticello, office tasks and returning calls finished the day.
Thursday evening we held the monthly Quorum Court meeting.  It was rescheduled from this Monday night because of the MLK holiday.
Friday began as usual by going to the courthouse and shop before checking road conditions in the Grace Community Road - Grace Loop Road areas.  Office work filled the rest of the morning.
Friday afternoon I visited Gardner Road, South Allis Road and Dave Knight Road before returning to the office from lunch.
The rest of the afternoon was filled with office work.  I did conduct a wedding.  I don’t charge for weddings because I consider it a public service and myself a public servant.  I just tell the couples to invite me to their 50th wedding anniversary.
Last Friday Ms Shelly Ferguson became the bride of Mr. Jackie Lemley.  Congratulations to the newlyweds!

Bordeaux Road, Cominto Road, Collins Line Road, Skipper Bridge Road, 4 Mile Creek Road and Jerome and Collins streets were patched.
Three pipes were installed on Vincent Lane.
Thursday saw Old Hwy 65 (Tillar), Young Lane, Shultz Lane, Simpson Lane, Nolen Lane, Florence Road, Brixie Road, Mount Tabor Road, part of Lincoln Road, Boston Road, the rest of N. Garnett Road, Lacey Collins Road, S. Cominto Road, Rash Crossing, Ott Pace Road and Buddy Beaty Road graded.
Lake Wallace Road was checked, but was too wet to blade.
Cracks were filled on Goose Hollow Road.
Gee’s Landing Road and James Glennon Road were bushhogged.
SB2 was hauled to the shop.
On Friday Loafer’s Lane, Puncheon Creek Road, Piney Creek Road, Bain Lane, Shaw Lane, South Sixteenth Section Road, Lake Wallace Road, Silver Mt. Church Road and Ashley 733 were bladed.

Please tell Judge Lampkin that the library staff appreciates the trimming of our trees. It not only looks better, it is safer for drivers to see at this intersection. Many thanks to the country staff.
