Let me begin by reminding you that your taxes are due by October 10. Please remember to take care of that to avoid a penalty.
At least we’ve had a dry and cooler week. It will take more time to get all the roadways dried out and back in good order though.
Last Monday began early at the courthouse and then at the shop about 7:00 a.m. as usual.
Then I helped move a truck from Ladelle to Baxter checking roads and picking up “High Water” signs along the way.
The rest of the day was spent at the courthouse with office work, calls and visitors. I also had to make final preparations for the QC meeting.
Monday evening the Quorum Court met with six members in attendance.
Tuesday began as usual. Then I went out to check roads in the Plantersville area and picked up some more signs.
Later that morning the mayor and I attended the Biofuels Conference arranged by Rep. Allen Maxwell at the UAM Gibson Center.
Office chores and returning calls completed the day.
Wednesday I was checking roads in the Selma-Collins Road area. While out that way, I stopped to visit QC member Jimmy Potter who is recuperating from knee-replacement surgery.
Later that morning I attended the Southeast Arkansas Intermodal Facility Authority meeting at Commercial Bank. Construction should begin on the access road into the facility in October.
Courthouse chores, calls and visitors finished the day.
Thursday began early at the courthouse after checking with the road department. Then I attended a joint meeting with Ashley County Judge Emory Austin, Bradley County Judge Keith Neely and Chicot County Judge Mary Turner as well as the public defender for the judicial district, Steven Porch. (Desha County Judge Mark McElroy was unable to attend.)
We met to discuss Mr. Porch’s budget for the 2009 calendar year.
After lunch I went out to the Panther Break and Lake Wallace areas to check roads.
Friday began as usual. Later I checked roads in the Selma and Collins areas again.
Courthouse chores, calls and visitors finished the week.
Last Monday 8 loads of gravel were hauled and spread on Grace Road. Enon Deane Road, Sandy Creek Road, Loafers Lane, Ott Pace Road, Rash Crossing and Skipper Bridge Road were also graded. Other wet roads were checked.
Soil cement work continued on Selma Collins Road.
Chips were hauled and spread on Shaw Lane.
Tuesday Grace Road, 4 Mile Creek Road, Lephiew Road, Grace Loop, Hill Community Road, Skipper Bridge Road, Silver Mount Church Road and Bulloch Hdqts Road were graded. Other roads were checked and were still too wet.

Work continued on Selma Collins Road.
Wednesday saw S. 16th Section Road, S. Selma Collins Road, Piney Creek Road, Panther Break Road, Lake Wallace Road, and the streets of Ladelle graded. Lake Wallace Road was ditched. Some roads are still too wet for grading.
Work continued on the north end of Selma Collins Road.
Some maintenance work was done at the shop.
On Thursday Connie Veasey Road, Mhoon Road, Thomas Lane, Huskey Trail Road, Webb Road, Landfill Road and Transfer Station Road were graded. Others were still wet.
SB2 was hauled and spread on Webb Road and Selma Collins Road.
The road crew continued on the north end of Selma Collins Road.
Friday saw New Light Road, Countryview Road, Old Troy Road, Seven Day Adventist Road, Ozment Bluff Access Road and ½ of Longview Road graded. Many other roads are still too wet for grading.
Work continued on Selma Collins Road.
The ditch banks at the fairgrounds were bushhogged.
Maintenance work was done at the shop.
