While I am sorry anyone got hurt, physically or financially, I’m grateful Hurricane Ike gave Drew County a bye. The high winds Saturday night caused some anxious times though. We are working to get roads back in shape as soon as we can.
Last Monday morning I was busy early checking roads and washouts. Later I returned to the office for routine paperwork.
At noon I attended the Chamber of Commerce meeting to hear guest speaker Attorney General Dustin McDaniel.
Courthouse work, calls and visitors finished the day.
We received another .4 inches of rain at my house Monday evening.
Tuesday began at the courthouse as my secretary was on vacation. Later I attended a biofuels meeting in Jerome with Clint O’Neill from Arkansas Department of Economic Development (ADED); Bill Horton, owner of the proposed plants at Jerome; Phillip Baugh, landowner; and the mayor. Mr. Horton gave quite an interesting “program” about how the process works.
Calls and office work finished the day.
Wednesday morning I was out early checking roads in the Panther Break and Selma Collins areas.
Later I attended a meeting held with officials from the Donald Reynolds foundation concerning a grant.
Courthouse chores completed the day.
Thursday began out in the Wilmar Loop area checking roads and putting up “high water” signs.
Later I met with ADEM District Coordinator Ken Ouellette and officials from FEMA about Hurricane Gustav damage. We drove them around the county for a preliminary check on the county roads.
Then I attended the SEAEDD meeting in Star City.
Office chores finished the day.
Friday began at the courthouse and road department.
Then I attended the Chamber coffee at the new cottage on the ABHC grounds. It is really a beautiful facility.
Later I went out to take photos and document further road damage for FEMA. Then I attended a historic preservation meeting in Little Rock.
When I got back to the office, I returned several calls before going home for the day.
We did receive another ½ inch between Friday night and Sunday morning. We were lucky!
Last Monday graders worked Selma Collins Road, Barnard Road, Lindsey Lane, S. 16th Section Road, Gardner Road, S. Allis Road and Dickson Road.
Additionally, SB2 was hauled and spread on Deal Road, Sid Caperton Road, Longview Road, Prairie Chapel Road and Wilmar Loop.
The soil cement crew began setup work on Selma Collins Road.
On Tuesday Longview Road and James Glennon Road were doublegraded. More work was done on Shaw Lane. Roads on other routes were checked for clogged pipes and washouts.
SB2 was hauled to the shop and A-stone to Florence Road. Those new bridges we had installed earlier in the summer were hit hard by the rain.
Work continued on the setup of soil cement on Selma Collins Road.
Wednesday saw Grace Loop, Grace Road, 4 Mile Creek Road, Pleasant Grove Road, New Light Road, Countryview Road, Seventh Day Adventist Road, Old Troy Road, Webb Road, Landfill Road, Transfer Station Road, Huskey Trail Road, Mhoon Road, Connie Veasey Road, Ponderosa Lane and Slina Road graded.
A-stone was hauled to the shop and Florence Road.
Soil cement setup continued on Selma Collins Road.
Thursday Loggy Bayou Road, Old Hwy 65, Young Lane, Peacock Road, Gee’s Landing Road, Ben Loveless Road, Carl O’Neal Road, Horn Loop, O. Z. Simpson Road, Friendship Lane, Prairie Grove Road and Deal Road were graded.
Two loads of SB2 were hauled and spread on Selma Collins Road.
Washouts were fixed on Longview Road and James Glennon Road.
Soil cement setup continued on Selma Collins Road.
On Friday soil cement setup continued on Selma Collins Road.
Additionally, Florence Road, Garrett Lane, Tara Lane, Ethel Lane, Green Mount Lane, Nolen Lane, Simpson Lane, Ganderville Road, Shultz Lane, Ken Lane, Buddy Beaty Road, Collins Lacey Road, S. Cominto Road, Rabb Road, Pleasant Springs Road and Hayden Loop were bladed.
Soil cement setup continued on Selma Collins Road.
Once again allow me to remind you to carry a small garbage bag in your car and avoid littering our roads and streets.
