It seems that fall has arrived at last! This nice weather will soon have us all spoiled.
Let me begin by making you aware that the courthouse and road department will be closed on Monday, October 13, in observance of Columbus Day. Monday’s garbage route will be run Tuesday along with Tuesday’s route. Please make note of that change.
Last Monday was spent traveling back and forth between the courthouse and the shop. I also had several visitors.
Tuesday began at the courthouse and then the shop as usual. Later I attended a regional meeting with ADEM and FEMA officials held in Star City. The meeting was to learn how to file the appropriate disaster paperwork for reimbursements due to losses incurred during hurricanes Gustav and Ike.
Office work filled the rest of the day.
Tuesday evening we attended the Weevil Welcome at City Park sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.
Wednesday morning I was busy between office chores at the courthouse and the shop. At noon I attended the monthly MEDC meeting.
Then it was back to the courthouse and shop for the rest of the day. That evening I did get back out to Selma Collins Road to check that job.
Thursday was spent like most other days - going from the courthouse activities to the shop and back.
I did get the flags at the courthouse changed to new ones. Gustav and Ike had taken their tolls on the old ones.
Friday morning I helped deliver a truck from Ladelle to Rabb Road. I also replaced a 9-1-1 sign on Pumpkin Center Road. Courthouse chores, calls and visitors finished the day.
I did have two weddings Friday afternoon. First, Ms Tiffany Williams became the bride of Mr. Kenny Stubblefield. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
Later Ms Patricia Townsley wedded Mr. Cliff Sturgeon. Best wishes to the happy couple!
Last Monday grader operators bladed Green Mount Road, Nolen Lane, Simpson Lane, Ganderville Road, Shultz Lane, Mount Tabor Road, Brixie Road, Florence Road, Prairie Chapel Road, Longview Road, Dyson Landing Road, Mammie Martin Road, Gee’s Landing Road, James Glennon Road and Deal Road. A washout was fixed on Gee’s Landing Road.
The rest of the crew worked on the chip and seal project on Selma Collins Road.
Tuesday saw south Selma Collins Road, South 16th Section Road, Lindsey Lane, Enon Deane Road, Pleasant Grove Road, Panther Break Road, Lake Wallace Road and Bulloch Road graded.
Chip and seal continued on Selma Collins Road. Soil cement setup continued on James Glennon Road.
Wednesday found graders working Hill Community Road, Skipper Bridge Road, Silver Mount Church Road, South Allis Road and 4 Mile Creek Road. Skipper Bridge Road and Panther Break Road were double graded. Other roads were checked.
Work continued on Selma Collins Road and James Glennon Road.
On Thursday roads on several routes were checked by the grader operators.
Work continued on Selma Collins Road.
Friday saw Dream’s End Road and Wheeler Lane graded. Gravel was hauled and spread on Mount Tabor Road, Florence Road and Rabb Road.
The Selma Collins Road project continued.
Please remember to watch out for the children getting on and off buses. Please remember not to litter our roadways.
Remember that all county offices will be closed on Monday, October 13. Monday and Tuesday’s sanitation routes will both be run on Tuesday.
Please remember, too, that the last day to pay your taxes without a penalty is Friday, October 10.
Have a great week!!
