Today is really a breezy, cool fall day! We had a busy weekend with the veteran’s breakfast and Possum Valley Days! There’s always something happening in Drew County!
Last Monday began at the courthouse and then shop. Then I went to check roads in the Selma Collins and Baxter areas.
I returned to the office before attending the Library Board meeting in Star City.
Office work and final preparations for Quorum Court meeting finished the day.
Monday evening the monthly Quorum Court meeting was held.
Tuesday began early out in the Plantersville Road/Sullivan Road area. Then I returned to the courthouse for a meeting with visitors.
Office work completed the rest of the day.
Late that afternoon I attended a special meeting of the Selma Community Center board held at the library.
Wednesday began as usual. Most of the morning was filled with office chores as we are soon to begin the budget process for 2009.
I did attend the Drew Memorial Hospital board meeting at noon.
Office chores, calls and visitors finished the day.
Thursday was a fairly uneventful day with office chores and signing off on paperwork for road damage from the hurricanes and heavy rains with FEMA filling the day.
Thursday evening we attended a Summit meeting at UAM’s Spencer Gallery along with about 80 others representing various facets of the community.
With guidance from Dale Carnegie Associates we were supposed to brainstorm the community’s greatest needs for the next few years. Some of the results were “surprising”.
Friday began as usual. Then I had a meeting with the equalization board and the reassessment officials. It was interesting! The rest of the day was busy in the office with calls, visitors, etc.
During the past few days we received a sprinkling of 3-tenths inch at my house.
Last Monday grader operators graded Grace Loop, Grace Road, Lephiew Road, Dollar Hill Road, Panther Break Road, Skipper Bridge Road, N. Garnett Road, Pleasant Springs Road, Hayden Loop, Lincoln Road and Boston Road.
Gravel was hauled to Bain Lane and the shop.
An 18 x 30 pipe was installed on Selma Collins Road.
A dump truck was serviced.
On Tuesday Four Mile Creek Road, Selma Collins Road, Barnard Road, Lindsey Lane, Sullivan Road, Dickson Road and Stafford Road were bladed.
Asphalt was hauled to Wilmar Loop, Sanderlin Road, Valley Junction Road and Midway Route for patching.
SB2 was spread on Collins Line Road and it was ditched.
Wednesday saw Loggy Bayou Road, Old Hwy 65, Young Lane and S. 16th Section Road graded.
More SB2 was hauled and spread on Collins Line Road.
The take-off ditches on Enon Deane Road were cleaned.
Old Warren Road and South Wilmar Road were patched.
Thursday South Cominto Road, Bud Jordan Road, Pleasant Grove Road and Baker Road were graded. A “bad” spot was fixed on Baker Road.
West Mount Zion Road and Plantersville Road were bushhogged.
Several other roads and culverts were checked after the rain.
SB2 was hauled to the shop.
A 24 x 30 pipe was installed on Jones Loop.
Ditches were cleaned on Pleasant Springs Road and Garnett Road.
Some work was done around the shop.
Friday saw Ganderville Road, Simpson Lane, Nolen Lane, Green Mount Lane, Tara Lane, Garrett Lane, Ethel Lane, Florence Road, Prairie Chapel Road, Longview Road, Carl O’Neal Road and Horn Loop graded.
Drew 133, Bowser Road, Midway Route and Green Hill Road were patched.
SB2 was hauled to the shop.
Some maintenance work was done at the shop.
Have a successful deer hunt, but please don’t put deer carcasses out at bus turnarounds. Please dispose of them properly.
Please don’t litter our roadways either.
Please remember to go and vote. Early voting continues at the courthouse through Monday. Election Day is Tuesday.
Let’s remember the Drew Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Omelet Breakfast this Saturday, November 1st. As they say on Food Network, those ladies put out some “Good Eats” and tickets are only $5.00 each!
