With the 4.5 inches of rain received on Friday the cooler temperatures came reminding us of Fall. Summer will return though.
Last Monday my day began at the courthouse then shop as usual. Then I took a truck and went to fill a grader and bushhog with diesel. Before returning to the courthouse, I also helped move a truck from Hwy 133 to Old Warren Road.
Courthouse chores filed the rest of the morning.
After lunch I had to go to Tillar, Winchester, Wilmar, Monticello High School, Drew Central High School and UAM to deliver their mitigation resolutions to them to be acted upon by the proper authorities. A mitigation plan is a plan of action to be followed during an emergency. Each entity must file one in order to receive FEMA’s help in such an incident.
Office work finished the day.
Tuesday began as usual then I helped deliver trucks to Jerome and Selma. While at Selma I met with SEAEDD officials there to accept a grant check for the Selma Rosenwald School rehabilitation project.
Courthouse chores filled the rest of the day.
Tuesday night I went to the Jerome City Council meeting to deliver their mitigation resolution for passage. (This couldn’t be done earlier because the council members are employed during the day.)
I was pleasantly surprised to see that Bill Horton, president of the company that will build the biofuel plants, and contractor Gary Sullivan attended the meeting to answer council questions about the plants.
It is an exciting endeavor sure to have a positive impact upon economic development in Drew County. A total of 250 jobs is great!
Wednesday morning I attended an 8:00 a.m. ribbon-cutting at our renovated Wal-Mart. A good crowd was there.
Then I went out in the southeastern part of the county to help gather “High Water” signs that had been put out earlier. Panther Break Road had several problem areas.
I returned to the courthouse for the rest of the morning.
I also held a wedding. Ms Mary Ann Burnett became the bride of Mr. David Strickland. Best wishes to the newlyweds!
At noon I attended a farewell luncheon for departing City Clerk Cindy Fakouri. Our loss is Pine Bluff’s gain. Cindy will be missed, perhaps more than is realized now.
Leaving there, we traveled to Eudora to the monthly Cornerstone Coalition meeting. The group’s legislative agenda was discussed.
Although the courthouse was closed when I returned to Monticello, I checked calls and messages at the office before going home.
Thursday morning I helped move trucks from Ladelle to Baxter and from Selma to S. 16th Section Road before going to the courthouse for office tasks.
After lunch the mayor and I rode to check the striping on Old Warren Road. It was imperative to get that done before school started.
Office tasks and calls finished the day.
Friday morning I helped move a truck from Baxter to the shop. I also carried diesel to Ladelle, checking roads as I traveled.
Courthouse activities, calls and visitors completed the day.
As mentioned earlier, we received 4.5 inches of rain Friday and early Saturday at my house.

Please be extra careful and watch for the schoolchildren getting on and off the buses these days since school is back in session.
You might also remember to carry a small bag in your car for trash. Please don’t throw it out the window of your car onto the roadsides. .
Have a great week!!
