County Judge’s Report – May 15, 2008
Published by Judge Damon Lampkin May 13th, 2008 in County Judge's Report.Once again Drew County was blessed when the latest line of storms moved through the state. However, it is definitely unnerving. Let’s remember out fellow Arkansans in Stuttgart.
I want to congratulate Glenda Bolin and the Chamber of Commerce for another successful Rough ‘n Ready festival. The air was hot and muggy, but I think everyone who attended enjoyed it.
Last Monday began at the courthouse before going to the shop. From there I helped move a truck from the shop to Selma and from Hwy 133 to Ladelle for grader operators.
I help move trucks for two reasons: 1) I get to check the roads in those areas; and 2) it keeps from tying up a man who’s busy working on a road to do this. It’s actually more time efficient for all.
The rest of the day was filled with regular office chores and calls. I did ride out with QC member Jimmy Potter to look at a road.
Tuesday began as usual. Then I helped move a truck from Plantersville Road to Ladelle checking some roads in the area in the process before returning to the courthouse for the rest of the morning.
After lunch I went to check the ditching done on Buddy Beaty Road. Then I helped with the proclamation for a city permit from the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality (ADEQ) to allow the city to burn debris at the transfer station.
Office work finished the day.
After leaving the courthouse early Wednesday, I took diesel to a grader on Hayden Loop and another at Collins. Then I helped move a truck to Ladelle.
Office work filled the rest of the morning.
At noon I attended the monthly MEDC meeting.
Office work completed the day.
Thursday began at the courthouse. Then I checked at the shop before returning to the courthouse for the rest of the morning.
At noon I attended the monthly SEAEDD meeting held in Monticello this month. I was delighted that former mayor James Jordan felt hearty enough to accompany me. Mayor Jordan is a longtime member of the SEAEDD board, but hasn’t felt well enough to attend in some time. Mr. Jordan and many old friends enjoyed seeing each other and working together. Mayor Jordan always has an abiding concern for Monticello’s best interests.
Office work completed the rest of the day.
After going to the courthouse early Friday morning, I helped take a truck to Plantersville Road for a grader operator. I also checked Boston Road and Sullivan Road.
Calls, visitors and routine office work filled the rest of the day.
I did officiate a wedding Friday afternoon. Ms Dauphina Jackson became the bride of Mr. Bommie Ridgell. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
Saturday afternoon Sheilla and I worked the Silent Auction at the Rough ‘n Ready festival.
Last Monday grader operators checked routes for washouts. Buddy Beaty Road and Collins Lacey Road were graded and their ditches were cleaned.

Florence Road, Jose Chapel Road, Garnett Road, East Mount Zion Road, West Mount Zion Road, Plantersville Road, Campground Road, Vincent Lane, Old Hwy 13, South Bowser Road, Goose Hollow Road and Valley Junction Road were patched.
