What a hot week!! Last Monday began at the courthouse early before going to the shop. There I helped move a truck from Lacey to Ladelle for a grader operator, checking roads in the area as I went.
Office tasks, visitors and calls filled the rest of the day.
Tuesday began at the office. I was tied up tracking down a replacement truck for a garbage truck that was “broken down”. Finding an available “loaner” was not a simple task.
At noon I attended an organizational meeting of a new Kiwanis Club group in Drew County.
That afternoon I was back on the phone looking for a truck. I finally did locate one to “rent” by the hour until ours is back in service.
Tuesday evening a hearing was held with representatives from ADEQ and McClelland Engineers regarding a landfill permit for our expansion.
Wednesday began as usual. Then I went to check the chip and seal work on Wilmar Loop Road. I came back by the landfill where the guys from McClelland Engineers were taking soil samples.
Later I attended the Intermodal Authority meeting at Commercial Bank to hear an update on progress at that proposed facility.
That afternoon I had a long visit with Bradley County Judge Keith Neely about some matters of common interest.
Office chores finished the day.
Thursday I checked the work being done on Wilmar Loop before attending an onsite meeting with Entergy representatives about getting electricity to the landfill.
Later I accompanied the mayor to gather supplies for the Cal Ripkin banquet to be held later that day.
That afternoon I took a truck to Wilmar Loop to deliver diesel to a piece of equipment.
Office tasks completed the day.
Thursday evening I attended the Cal Ripkin 10-year-old SW Regional Tournament banquet at First Assembly of God Church. A huge crowd was there. I gave the “welcome” from Drew County and Monticello to those assembled.
Friday began early out on Selma- Collins Road. Then I helped move a truck from Cominto to Selma. I also checked several roads for bushhogging.
The rest of the day was filled with office tasks, calls and visitors.
That evening we attended the Cal Ripkin tournament. It’s been “warm”, but those kids are a treat to watch. For the most part, they are very serious about the game.
Saturday morning we attended the ribbon-cutting at the new AT&T store on Hwy 425 across from Wal-Mart. Wow! It is a beautiful facility! You should pay them a visit just to see the new high-tech business. We certainly welcome their interests in Drew County.
The road department is busily working on our chip and seal projects.
Last Monday grader operators bladed Grace Loop, Grace Road, 4 Mile Creek Road and Lephiew Road in eastern Drew County. Gravel was hauled and spread on Bowden Loop.
Class 2 was hauled to Ladelle.
Soil cement work continued on Wilmar Loop and Carter Road.
South Lacey School Road and Valley Junction road were bushhogged.
Tuesday saw Shaw Lane, Bain Lane, Piney Creek Road, Skipper Bridge Road, Hill Community Road, Panther Break Road, Bulloch Road, Lake Wallace Road, Silver Mount Church Road and Ashley 733 graded.
Friendship Lane, Goose Hollow Road, Deal Road and Deal Lane were bushhogged.
Class 2 was hauled to Ladelle.
Work continued on the chip and seal.
On Wednesday Selma Collins Road, Florence Road, Slina Road, Carl O’Neal Road, Horn Loop, Prairie Chapel Road, Dyson Landing Road and Mammie Martin Road were bladed.
Jones Loop and James Glennon Road were bushhogged. More Class 2 gravel was hauled to Ladelle (for stockpile).
Chip and seal on Wilmar Loop and Carter Road continued.
Thursday Loggy Bayou Road, Shultz Lane, Brixie Road and Mount Tabor Road were graded. Other roads were checked but too dry for grading.
Class 2 rock was hauled to Sanderlin Road, Carter Road and Wilmar Loop for chip and seal.
Soil cement work began on Longview Road.
Gee’s Landing Road, Dyson Landing Road and Mammie Martin Road were bushhogged.
On Friday roads were checked on grader routes; some were too dry to grade. However, Pleasant Grove Road, Mhoon Road, Countryview Road, Seven Day Adventist Road, Old Troy Road, Webb Road, Ponderosa Lane, Hayden Loop, Pleasant Springs Road, N. Garnett Road, Rabb Road and Old Warren Road were bladed.
Chip and seal work continued.
A repaired truck was picked up in Little Rock.
It looks as though this week will be “the hottest” yet, so try to “keep cool”. Please remember the mosquito dunks. I heard that three cases of the West Nile virus have occurred in central Arkansas.
Please remember not to litter and throw trash out the window on someone else’s property. It’s just as easy to out a small bag in your vehicle and throw it away at home. Let’s help keep Drew County clean and beautiful.
Have a great week!
