Effective immediately, there is a burn ban for Drew County. Rather than act too hastily, I have waited until the Arkansas Forestry Commission folks, after monitoring the dryness in the forested areas, evaluated conditions and deemed it necessary. Therefore there is a ban until further notice on any outdoor burning.
Anyone willingly ignoring the ban may be fined up $500. Please don’t toss those cigarette butts out your vehicle windows either.
Last Monday began as usual with early trips to the courthouse and shop. Then I helped move a truck from Ladelle to Baxter before going to the landfill to check on getting the path cut to put power to the landfill.
Office work filled the rest of the morning. Before lunch I went to administer the oath of office to Dr. Ryan Collins, the new DMH Board member.
Office chores and calls finished the afternoon.
Tuesday morning began as usual. Then I helped move a truck from Baxter back to Ladelle for a grader operator and from the shop to the Rock Springs fire station for the bushhog operator. Later I delivered 10 fire extinguishers to the Winchester Volunteer Fire Department.

Wednesday I helped move a truck from the Rock Springs VFD to Barkada/133. Then I drove down to look at the chip and seal being done on Longview Road before returning to the office.
At noon I attended the monthly DMH board meeting. Work at the courthouse completed the day.
Thursday I attended the quarterly meeting of the Arkansas History commission at Powhatan Courthouse in Lawrence County. Grants and Parks and Tourism moneys have really preserved the 1888 building. It was an interesting meeting.
We were fortunate to get 2 inches of rain at my house that afternoon.
Friday began at the courthouse and shop as usual. Then I attended an early meeting with the assessor’s office, the appraisers and the equalization board about the recent reappraisal that drove up the property taxes on a great many of us. It was enlightening.
