City Council Approves Bonus for Employees-Tree City-Budget Dates
November 21st, 2008 by Joe BurgessMembers of UAM’s American National Government class attended the  Monticello City Council meeting Thursday night.
Finance director, Kimberly Fletcher to council that the police and fire dept. fuel budgets have been maxed out for the year. Also a new police car had been paid for, and payment was made for the new rescue truck. Grant money for it’s purchase has also been received.
Sales tax numbers for the year continue to increase.
In other news, qualifies demolition crews have arrived, and will likely begin work on the old Whaley School property Friday morning.
A committee was formed, and will look at the city’s health insurance benefit package, The committee includes an alderman from each ward. Members are Al Peer, Carolyn Brown, Clifton Bond, and committee chairman Beverly Hudson.
City budget meeting have set for December 1 (to meet with dept. heads), Dec. 11 (to close out 2008’s budget), and Dec. 16 (to work on the 2009 budget).
The council approved a bonus of $300 for full-time city employees, and a bonus of $100 for part-time employees, and employees who have worked for the city for less than 6 months.
Tree board members were approved, as announced earlier on MonticelloLive,and a resolution amending the wording of the “tree city” ordinance was approved.
