City Attorney Bill Daniels Resigns
June 14th, 2011 by Joe BurgessCity Attorney Bill Daniel’s letter of resignation was submitted to the city, the mayor, and city council members earlier this month, and was made public at their recent city council meeting.
Here is that letter of resignation, effective July 31.

Dear Ladies & Gentlemen:
It is has been my honor to serve you and the citizens of Monticello in an elected career as the Municipal/District Court Judge and, most recently, as the City Attorney for the City of Monticello
During my tenure as City Attorney, the position has begun to evolve from being a “part-time” position. I am certain that a number of you recognize that as a “part-time” official, one must balance the time allotted for his public duties and the time allotted for any private business interests. As the time requirements and demands have increased for me in the performance of the public duties as City Attorney, I have found myself unable to perform this balancing act. The City Attorney’s position simply requires the devotion of more time than I am capable of devoting without adversely impacting other interests.
Therefore, I must regretfully submit my resignation as City Attorney, effective at the close of business on July 31, 2011.
Again, it has been my honor and privilege to work with each of you, and I will forever cherish the trust placed in me by you as well as the citizens of Monticello.
Yours most sincerely,
William R. Daniels

Editor’s note: Monticello attorney Witt Barton was later appointed to fill the city attorney position.

Bill Daniels for Mayor, I’m Sure he will take a pay cut but he will be beter than what we have, Last election we took the lesser of two evils, Or Did We?
Job well done!
You have been an asset to Monticello.
He’s probably like everyone else, and sick of dealing with the drama and lies from the Mayor and City Council. This is sad because Bill Daniels is not just a good attorney, but also a fine citizen of the the community.
bill danials a good att mayor very offence
aw. simply the nicest man ever.
Well said Josh.. And Bill Daniels for Mayor!!!
I think we should just cut the fat and bring in more mature officials. I’m not talking about this man but instead I’m talking about the mayor. Our city council is becoming more dramatic than a high school.
BILL DANIELS FOR MAYOR!!!!!!!
He is going to be missed. He’s a really nice man with a good sense of humor. Job well done.
I am proud of the fact that I have known Bill Daniels since 1965 at the dawn of the Freedom of Choice Intergration era in Monticello. bill has throughout the morning of childhood and the stellar period of his noonday of adulthood a par excellence personia in all arena’s of his life. Monticello is truly loosing an outstanding entity and may God continue Favor and blessings upon him.
Thanks Bill, for all your hard work for the people of Monticello and dedication over the years.
Bill Daniels is such a great man, attorney and former District Court Judge. I really hate to think that he is actually cutting his ties with the city of Monticello, but I can see why. Therefore, I wish him the best of luck in his retirement, but I really wish he would consider being our District Court Judge again. This “crap” we now call a court, is totally ridiculous and out of control. Everyone has heard about what the current judge has been accused of, the head court clerk doesn’t do her job because she’s never there, the court fines are astronimical and can never be collected because the record keeping is a joke. The whole thing is one big mess. Please bring back Judge Daniels and get this court back on track.
Grizzly should know…the mayor’s salary in Monticello is $65,000 a year. The city attorney makes less than the mayor.
