Christmas parade Tuesday!

City workers put the finishing touches on the 35 foot Christmas tree set up on the town square as they added dozens of Christmas light nets. Charlie Hammock soared high above downtown Monday afternoon as he tied the lights together. The tree was obtained from a private landowner north of Dover, Arkansas. Mayor David Anderson and two city workers took a trailer to get it. The Pope County judge lent the Monticello trio a backhoe to carry the tree to the trailer. It was so large that it took them two hours to load and secure the tree for its route to Monticello.

Tonight at 6:00 Monticello’s annual Christmas parade will wind its way down Main Street, through the town square. Floats from dozens of organizations, businesses, and churches will be featured as well as Santa Claus with an early visit to Monticello.

From the Chamber of Commerce site:

Historic downtown Monticello comes alive with lights and music at the celebration of the annual “Carols of Christmas” holiday parade tonight at 6:00 p.m.  Over one million sparkling lights cover floats depicting favorite Christmas carols as the parade moves around the town square and down Main Street.  Following the parade, a holiday open house and candlelight tour will be hosted by the Drew County Historical Museum, complete with visits with Santa.  The fun continues at McCloy City Park where holiday lights fill the park and set the mood for a fireworks display at 8:00 p.m.  Contact the chamber, (870)367-6741 for complete details.
