Chamber of Commerce Showcases Monticello to Ark. Dept. of Parks & Tourism Staff.
Published by Joe Burgess May 5th, 2008 in Chamber of Commerce.Glenda Nichols, Chamber of Commerce Director, recently led a tour of Monticello and Drew County’s tourism sites to approximately 18 of the Arkansas’ Department of Parks and Tourism personnel, who operate the state’s “visitor’s information centers” located all over the state.
Most of the guests had never been to Monticello before, and seemed to be impressed by the many opportunities that Monticello offers visitors.
Their tour included a trip to Lake Monticello, where a Game & Fish representative answered questions about the trophy bass that come out of Lake Monticello.
Next up was a visit to Monticello Speedway, where they were provided with racing schedules to carry back to the visitors centers around the state.
The trip to Monticello also included a tour of the Drew County Museum, the Trotter House, and a meal at “The River.”

Sounds like a step in the right direction for Drew Co. tourism
The Hunger Run entrance is in horrible shape and is rough to drive down even in a car or truck. If we really want people to come here to use the lake then we need to repave that whole road, and don’t patch it either, that’s the problem with it now. And now thanks to the city’s plans to cut down timber in that area, all our guests will have those beautiful clear-cuts on the way to the lake (Drew Co. scenery at it’s best).
