December 27th, 2009 by Monticello Schools

MVC-044SMonticello Middle School’s “Blue Archers” are practicing in preparation for the Arkansas State Tournament on Saturday, February 6th, in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

Deseray Selzer is new to the team as a 7th grader and is doing extremely well. She had a “Robin Hood” moment at practice on recently, as she hit the bull’s-eye with her first arrow and split it with her second arrow.

The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is very excited about the state tournament. A record number of students are expected to participate in the event. Monticello Middle School placed 2nd last year at state and had three students who qualified to go to National’s in Louisville, Kentucky.

Coach Sherry Knight and Assistant Coach Herman Fleming are anticipating that their team will score at least 2600 to qualify the entire team for National’s in Kentucky. The public is welcome to attend the ANASP (Arkansas National Archery in the Schools Program) in February in Hot Springs. Come out and support this great sport.

MES Teacher Fired by School Board

December 17th, 2009 by Joe Burgess

The board held a closed hearing for Amy Arrington, MES staff member, to discuss teacher recommendation for termination.

After the session was opened again, board members moved to accept the findings placed before them, and then moved to terminate Arrington’s contract.

Three attorneys and two local witnesses were present for the closed door hearing, and no comments were publicly made about the reason for Arrington’s dismissal.

Arrington had been arrested by the Drug Task Force on September 4, following an investigation that led agents to obtain an arrest warrant for Arrington on the charges of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud, reportedly in reference to a  fraudulent prescription attempting to be passed at local pharmacy.

Billies State Championship Game Video on Internet

December 4th, 2009 by Joe Burgess

The Billies Booster Club will be live-streaming the game Friday night at ustream.tv/channel/gobillies.

The broadcast will be live during the game, and is expected to begin around 7 pm.

You will be able to chat and view the game.  Also, when you move your mouse across the “broadcast screen,” you will likely see a button that will enlarge the view to full screen. However, this will block your view of the chat-box.

It is definitely not as good as being there, but if you can’t go, you can still be a part of it.

Last week, there was a viewer limit of just over 50 at a time, but we believe that this has been fixed to allow everyone to participate.

Last week there folks on line from Monticello missionaries serving in Brazill, as well as viewers from Alaska, Houma LA, Jackson MS. Little Rock, Houston TX, Blacksburg VA, Naples FL, Hot Springs, Warren, Kansas City, and Dallas.

KHBM at 93.7 and 103.7 will broadcast on the radio, so listeners can hear the broadcast in Monticello, and statewide.
