A Monticello family will be featured in the next thirteen weeks on the Outdoor Channel. Doug Hampton, a Drury Outdoors pro staffer, along with his team-mate Rod Owen competed with national Celebrity J.W. Hart this past fall. They formed “Team Hart” which competed against three other celebrities paired with other Drury pro staffers as well. Tim Sylvia of the U.F.C, Adam Wainwright of the St. Louis Cardinals, and Aaron Lewis of the rock group Staind are the other competing celebrities. 

Although the show is technically about the celebrities hunting with the Drury Outdoors team members, Hampton wanted to make sure that his family got in on the action. They did just that, and in a huge way! Brandy Hampton, Doug’s wife, knocked down a Kansas giant that grossed 151″s and was followed up just two days later when their son Coltin dropped a huge 6 year-old 13 point Kansas stud that grossed 165″s. Doug Hampton also had four kills in four different states including two P&Y bucks in the mid 140′s, as well as a 14 point muzzle loader kill that also grossed 140″s. (more…)

Hunter Lane killed his first turkey, which had a 10″ beard, during the Youth Turkey Hunt here in Drew County.

Evan Forrest killed his first turkey, which had a 9′ beard, Saturday during the youth hunt here in Monticello, while hunting with his Uncle Robert.

Evan is the son of Daniel and Dana Herring and Tommy and Courtney Forrest.

Doug Hampton, a Monticello resident and Drury Outdoors team member, along with his wife Brandy and 13 year old son Coltin, were chosen this past fall to be a part of the popular Outdoor Channel television show “Dream Season.” The title for this year’s show is Dream Season 7 “Celebrity”. Four of the regular Drury teams were asked to take on a national celebrity for a hunting partner, as well as hunt and video their immediate family.

Hampton and team mate Rod Owen of Missouri, teamed up with J.W. Hart from the Professional Bull Riders association(P.B.R.) to form “Team Hart”. Team Hart took twelve animals on video this season consisting of eleven bucks and a boar hog. Hampton and his family accounted for five of the bucks and the hog. (more…)

Bo Evans, age 12, harvested this 8 point, while hunting with his dad this weekend in Drew County.

Kyle Trantham killed this 10 point in the Beulah community on Novenber 21st.

Kyle is the son of Ricky and Casey Trantham.

Brice Stafford killed this 8 point while hunting with his Dad.

 Brice is the son of Jim & Amanda Stafford of the Barkada community.

Brenda Reed harvested this 8-point at 7:30 am, last Saturday morning.

Re-anna Stewart killed this 8 point with a muzzleloader. 

She is the daughter of Jimmy and Angel Bush

Coltin Hampton of Monticello made a thirty yard shot on this gobbler April the 4th in Kansas during the youth season. The hunt was captured on video for Drury Outdoors and should be featured on the Longbeard Madness 15 video that will be out next winter. This gobbler had 1″ spurs with a 10 & 1/2″ beard.

Coltin will also be featured on the 100% wild, vol.9 ,” Here’s your sign”, whitetail video that will be available next month. Coltin takes a nice 11 pt whitetail during the Kansas whitetail youth season.

Jordyn Nowlen, age 8, of Monticello killed her first turkey while hunting with her dad during the weekend youth hunt. The gobbler had an 8 ½ inch beard, ¾ inch spurs, and weighed 20 pounds.Jordyn is the daughter of Joe and Elizabeth Nowlen of Monticello.

Zachary Irons of Dumas killed his first gobbler, while hunting with his papaw Steve Stevens on Big Island.

The gobbler had an 11 inch beard. He bagged his second gobbler the next day. It had a 10 inch beard.

This was Zach’s first time turkey hunting. He is the son of Keith and Michelle Irons of Dumas.

A Turkey Calling Contest will be held March 17 at 6:00 P.M. at the MHS Library

What Calls: Hen Yelp, Cluck-n-Purr, Fly-Down, Cackle and Cutting of an Excited Hen

The first place winner will go to the state competition where the prizes awareded will be a Yamaha 250 four-wheeler. Also trophies and merchandise totaling over $5,000.

Josh Adams, 9, of Monticello, killed this 3 point while hunting in Prescott.

The hunt took place over the Thanksgiving holidays.

Tommy Trantham killed this 10 point the morning of November 30, in the Hwy 35 E area.

It was a 100 yard shot, using a 30-06.

Lance Kling killed this fourteen point on the afternoon of 11/15/08 near Monticello.
