Benji Ryburn, of Ryburn’s Automotive Superstore, announced to the Monticello School Board that his company would be donating $2,500 to the district. Along with this donation, as part of a grant, Toyota will be matching the donation and giving an additional $2,500 to the schools.
The grant money is to be used for upcoming creative classroom projects and initiatives related to the improvement of student achievement. The funds may be used for various materials and supplies, such as books, software, technology, and art and lab materials.
Medlin’s Metal Roofing, with operations in Strong, Bastrop, LA, and West Monroe, LA, will soon be opening a sales office on HWY 425 North, in Monticello.

pecializes in residental, commercial, and agricultural roofing.
They also carry roll-up doors, and all types of metal roofing accessories.
Mosquito Beach Emporium is a relatively new retailer to Monticello, located right behind Ray’s at 718 Hwy 278 West.
The Emporium features a unique collection of gifts for all ages, including Razorback merchandise, hand-crafted items from all over the world, knives, and jewelry, as well as new and antique-style tin toys. The Emporium is an exclusive seller of Back Forty Farm’s Goat Milk Soap (made locally in Sheridan), Sailor Jerry, ZiZi Jewelery charms and bracelets, and Sullen Art Collective. They also feature an array of clothing from Hog t-shirts to Southern Girl tees.
The store hours are 10 a.m. – 6 p.m, Tuesday through Saturday.
Union Bank is proud to announce the opening of their new facility on HWY 425 North, “Union Bank Express”.
The new branch is expected to open on January 3, 2012, replacing the Walmart branch, which will be closing December 30, 2011.
Union Bank Express will offer 3 drive-through lanes, an ATM, and a night deposit. Also available (for our customer with trucks and larger vehicles) a wider lane with higher clearance.
The new facility’s expected hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30 – 6 pm; and Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm.

Dr. Rickey Ferguson, a long time business resident on West McCloy is moving; moving next door, that is.
Dr. Ferguson’s new vision center will be located next to his present office.
The new, larger office will allow Dr.Ferguson to provide addition equipment and services, and also brings with it the likelihood of adding another optometrist to serve Monticello, as well as the clinic’s Hamburg office, in the future.
They expect to move into their new facility later this year.
The ribbon cutting was held Tuesday for Simply Jenny
Lynn a family clothing store, which is new to Monticello.
The store will carry several major name brand clothing and shoe lines. Decorator mesh and wreaths are popular home decor items offered at Simply Jenny Lynn, as well as gift items such as Arkansas Razorback jewelry, t-shirts, yard signs, and various other Hogs items. Long-sleeve tees are now available, including Christmas shirts.
Jenny Lynn is located at 113 West Gaines, Monticello on the square. The store hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10-6pm.
Jenny Lynn, along with selected other downtown merchants will be open until 8pm on Thursdays, until Christmas.

Dallas-based residential mortgage originator PrimeLending, a PlainsCapital Company, today announced the opening of its new Monticello, Arkansas branch.
The office is located at 103 Greenfield Drive near the corner of Highway 278 and Greenfield Drive. The home financing professionals will serve homebuyers in Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi.
PrimeLending has named Tiffany Berryman as the branch manager. She brings 13 years of experience in the mortgage industry. Her responsibilities include originating mortgage loans, recruiting top producing mortgage originators, and overseeing daily operations for the Monticello office. Working with Berryman will be loan officers Renee Estes and Brandon Lyon and processor Beth Rowan.

Teens found scouring their closets for clothing made in America to be anything but a simple challenge as a class discussions about education in America compared to China led to conversations about how the U.S. companies use workers in foreign countries to make U.S. products.
After the students viewed the recent dorm room décor dilemma at Southern Methodist University in Texas aired on the ABC News Made in America series, the students began to wonder why companies send their work to other countries when there are so many unemployed in America. (more…)

U.S. Representative Mike Ross and U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and
John Boozman have announced the Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will receive a $2,721,435 federal grant to rehabilitate and improve 40 miles of railroad track along the Warren Branch of the Arkansas Midland Railroad, a short line railroad located in southeastern Arkansas. The grant will help fund improvements to tracks in Bradley, Chicot and Drew counties.

After several calls to the factory, SeaArk Boats, recreation aluminum boat builder, is trying to avoid further confusion arising from the recent announcement that its sister company, SeaArk Marine, made on August 29th. In that announcement, SeaArk Marine President, John McClendon, explained that the company had made the decision to suspend acceptance of new boat orders until further notice. SeaArk Marine manufactures work and patrol boats for the military and government agencies as well as commercial boats for various industrial markets.
Bob Worthington, writer for Fly-Low magazine, recently visited the Monticello Airport, and had great praise for airport commissioner Benji Ryburn and airport manager James Barnett, after he left, in the magazine’s article, “The Left Seat” entitles ”BIG AIRPORTS…… and the smaller ones.”

A benefit of using smaller airports is the friendly folks that inhabit these places. A case in point is the municipal airport at Monticello, AR.
