N. Syracuse, NY Wins World Series Over Saginaw Valley, MI With Homer in the 7th Inning

North Syracuse's Pilotti's game-winning 3 run homer in the final inning gave New York the victory in the World Series final.

The "Champs" celebrate, after the final out.

While trailing 4-3 in the top of the final inning with 2 outs, North Syracuse centerfielder Pilotti hit a 3 run home run to take the lead away from Saginaw Valley, MI and put New York ahead 6-4.

N. Syracuse added another run before the inning ended, and that’s how the game ended, with a 7-4 final score

Monticello Bone Crushers Take First Place in Tournamnet

The USSA 8AA Monticello Bone Crushers traveled to Little Rock August 21st and 22nd and took first place in the 2010 Fall Opening Shoot-Out.

Arkansas Attack Baseball Team Holding Open Tryouts

The Arkansas Attack baseball team will be having open tryouts for the 2010-2011 ~ 10UAA season for boys that will not turn 11 until after May 1, 2011.

Players will be evaluated on all aspects of the game. Bring your glove, bat and cleats. Tryouts will be at the YMCA ballfield July 31st and August 7 @ 10:00 am.

Cal Ripken 8U All Stars Place Third in State Tournament

The Monticello Cal Ripken 8U All Star team placed third out of 54 teams in the 2010 Cal Ripken State Tournament held in Sherwood last week.

 The team remained undefeated until they fell to the Sylvan Hill’s Cardinals in the final game of the winner’s bracket. Members of the team from left to right front row Cade Chambers, Shannon Strickland, Conner Gossman, Rhett Jaggers, Nick Griffin, and Phillip Stephenson. Back row left to right Justin Koslowski, Jakari Bagwell, Reid Merrell, Braylen Owens, Cagan Calhoun, Grant Jeffers. Coaches are Jim Jaggers, Paul Griffin, and Jeremy Calhoun.

South Arkansas Bulldogs Place 2nd in Their Division at USSSA 9U Global World Series

The South Arkansas Bulldogs competed in a USSSA 9U Global World Series in Gulf Shores, AL recently and placed 2nd in their division.

Second Annual Woodlawn Bear-Backers Co-Ed Softball Tournament

LRJD Wins State 10 Year Old Tournament at Jordan Park

Little Rock Jr. Deputy defeated Benton Tuesday night by a final score of 7-4, to become the State 10 year old Cal Ripken Champion.

Monticello Cal Ripken 8U All Stars won the Camden Pre State Tournament this past weekend.

There were 8 teams participating in their age division. Monticello allowed only two runs during the tournament.

10 Year Old Monticello Cal Ripken All Stars Win District 1 Championship

The 10 year old Monticello Cal Ripken All Star Team won the District 1 Championship on Tuesday in McGehee.

The team was undefeated during the district tournament winning the final game 16-1 over McGehee. They will advance to the Cal Ripken State Tournament which will begin July 9th and will be held at the Drew County Baseball Park.

Members of the team are Grayson Griffin, Gabe Grilli, Casey Downing, Luke Frost, Mason Philley, Cameron Reynolds, Aaron Spencer, Drake Phillips, Colby Stephens, Logan Smallwood, Sam English, & Devin Burton. Coaches are Paul Griffin, David English, and Brett Burton.

Seark Armor Runner Up in USSSA 10 AA State Tournament

Houston Astros Jeff Bagwell to Speak at 15 Year Old Babe Ruth World Series in Monticello

Former Houston Astros All-Star first baseman, Jeff Bagwell, will be the guest speaker at the banquet for the  15 year old Babe Ruth World Series, that will be held in Monticello.

The banquet will be held Sunday, August 22, at 6 pm, at the UAM Gibson Center.

Banquet tickets are $20 each, in advance.  A limited number of tickets are available.  Contact Charles Davis at 367-7987 to order your tickets now, to make sure that you don’t miss this special event.

Jeffrey Robert Bagwell is a former Major League Baseball first baseman who spent his entire major league career with the Houston Astros. After retirement as a player, he remains with the Astros as an assistant to the General Manager. (more…)

Monticello Cal Ripken 12 Year Old All-Stars Win Dumas Tournament

The Monticello Cal Ripken 12 yr old All-Stars won first place in the Dumas annual tournament, Saturday.

Eight teams participated in their division, and for the second year in a row, Monticello faced and defeated Stuttgart in the final game for the championship.

Monticello to Host 5A State Baseball Tournament in May

Monticello has been chosen as the host city for the 2010 5A high school baseball tournament, which will be held on May 14, 15, and 17.

The Arkansas Activities Association executive board made the selection Thursday, and director Lance Taylor  notified Monticello School superintendent Bobby Harper of their decision.

Tassin makes All Tournament team at the USSSA AA State Tournament.

tassin-on-moundRyan Tassin of Monticello was named to the USSSA AA State All Tournament team this week after his team, the Southern Vipers, won the state championship on June 21st after defeating the Arkansas Mustangs 11-7.
