Monticello Titans – Turn Tragedy into Victory – Winning Regional’s for the Southwest United StatesThe Monticello eleven year olds feared the worst Friday morning when the regional tournament began with a disappointing loss to Magnolia. CJ Lindsey opened the game by striking out the first two batters, but hopes were dashed as Magnolia seemed to get all the breaks and Monticello struggled just to stay in the game. The Titans brought in Jeff Carmical and Davis Frost to relieve Lindsey, but the momentum was missing. Monticello lost to Magnolia 14-2.
But, as is often the case, loss gave way to determination and the Cal Ripken 11 year olds bounced back with a 14-0 shut out against Pea Ridge. Colton Robinson secured a win in the record books pitching the first three innings, including 6 strike outs, demonstrating the defensive strength of the team. Offensively, the third inning would seal the deal for the Monticello Titans as they batted through their line up for two complete rotations, the highlight of which, was an in the park home run by Kelvin Hamilton. Josh Jenkins relieved Robinson in the fourth registering a save. But his time on the mound was short. The game was called in the fourth on runs. Monticello 14, Pea ridge 0.
