Charlee Carter recently competed in the state 4-H O’Rama where she placed 1st in her division in the Performing Arts, Dance Category. Charlee has been in 4-H for eight years. Her project area is dance. Pictured with Carter is Dr. Tony Windham, Associate Vice President for Ag-Extension.
Saturday afternoon, Deer Creek Disc Golf, located behind Dollar General and the storage rentals, held their grand opening in ribbon-cutting.
Disc golf is a trend that’s growing nationwide, as evidenced hereby the number of black logo shirts in the group photo.

Monticello Christian Academy, a daycare through 12th grade private school located at 910 Old Warren Road in Monticello, AR, recently hosted its 10th annual Victory Ceremony. This is a time to celebrate the accomplishments that the students made through the year as well as honor the graduating seniors. The photo depicts some of MCA’s students with their awards.
Kelly Word, Director of Education, noted that it was “hard to believe we are already celebrating 10 years. It seems like yesterday when we started with just five students. We have and are certainly continuing to grow!”

John Erickson is the recipient of the Crossett Riding Club 2014 UAM Agriculture Scholarship. The scholarship is for $500. Alanon meeting have moved their meetings to Monday nights. Meeting is at 5:30 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 821 N. Main. Meetings are completely confidential and is for anyone who thinks their life has been affected by another’s drinking.

Monticello Winners Group meets Monday, Thursday and Saturday nights at 8:00 P.M. at St Mary’s Episcopal Church 836 N. Hyatt Street.
They also meet on Tuesday from noon- 1 p.m. at church .

Kelsey Windham was crowned Sat as Miss Hamburg Holidays 2013. She also received awards for Most Beautiful & Best Personality. Kelsey is the 17 year old daughter of Teresa & Scott Duckworth & Darrell Windham. She is a senior at Monticello High School.

The week of September 8-14, 2013 is National Direct Support Professional’s week. Governor Beebe signed a proclamation declaring Arkansas’s recognition of Direct Support Professional’s in Arkansas.
A Direct Support Professional is the primary support of individuals who have special needs. These professionals provide a broad range of services, including preparation of meals, help with medications, personal hygiene, mobility, transportation, money management and instruction in daily life skills.
Planting a tree is a wonderful way to honor or remember a special person, group, or event. The Monticello Tree Board has teamed up with the Parks and Recreation Committee to plant trees in all of our city parks. Donations are now being accepted to purchase and plant trees in our parks. This project will add beauty to our parks and encourage residents to get involved.
Celebrate the life of a loved one by donating a tree in their honor. Donate a tree as a gift for a friend or family member. A tree is great as a wedding or anniversary gift! Recognize the good deeds of a group or organization. The donation of a tree is a wonderful testimonial to a life well lived. Family and friends will have a living monument for a loved one, and the tree will also provide beauty, shade and landscaping for city parks.
Last December, 14 new trees including red buds, sycamore, black gums, and red maples were planted in Jordan Park. Several of those trees have been sponsored, but there are still have a few sponsorships available. (more…)
Students from Kim’s Dance Factory attended U.S. olympic coach Bela Karolyi’s gymnastics camp this past week. The camp was held at Karolyi’s training facility near Houston.
The gymnasts were accompanied by their gym coach Mary Ramsey.
Stephen “Stevie” Richardson has been selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine this summer. The 10-day forum is designed to introduce students like Stevie to a variety of concepts in public health, medical ethics, research, and general practice. Students participate in site visits to medical schools and clinical facilities.
