This alligator was captured near Lake Wallace in May.  An alligator may not be worthy of the #35 story of 2011, but this video ha been viewed over 2,300 times. 

Another alligator was caught near Tillar in August.

An ordinance was then passed to prescribe the manner in which funds received from a grant will be distributed to school districts. The money will come from a grant issued by the Arkansas State Game and Fish Commission to the Arkansas Department of Education for fish and wildlife conservation, education, and other purposes.

Court members said this grant is the same as it has been for years, but they are requesting that the schools (Drew Central and Monticello Districts) provide information to the Court, during the next regular meeting, in regards to how the money will be used.

The gator’s presence prompted a phone call to the Monticello Police Dispatch, who sent a Drew County Sheriff’s deputy to the scene.

The gator was safely  taken into custody by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission.

Another alligator, estimated to be 9 feet in length,  was captured by AG&F officers in May, while trying to cross HWY 165, south of Dermott, in the Lake Wallace area of Drew County.  Drew County Sheriff’s deputies were also present.

Captured alligators are generally re-located to an appropriate habitat, where they will not be around people.

This alligator was captured by Arkansas Game & Fish officers around 11 am this morning.

The alligator, estimated to be 9 feet in length, was trying to cross HWY 165, south of Dermott, in the Lake Wallace area of Drew County.

AG&F’s nuisance alligator coordinator Mark Barbee, of Monticello, of the wildlife management division,  accompanied by wildlife officers John Paul Greer of Monticello, and Keith Cardin, and Doug Stark, of Chiot County, safely captured the gator. 

Other officers on the scene included Drew County Sheriff’s deputies.

The trophy bass fishery is a popular spot for largemouth anglers.

The City of Monticello is providing approximately $400,000 toward the total project cost of $500,000.  Plum Creek is expected to make a substantial contribution to the project, but a forml announcement hasn’t  been released yet.

The alligator, estimated to measure around 2 1/2 foot long, was detained by city employee Charlie Hammock, with local law authorities present, and turned over to the Arkansas Game & Fish Commision.
