Busiest day for site

February 27th, 2007 by

Yesterday, February 26, was MonticelloLive’s busiest day ever! Thanks for your continued interest and helping spread the word around our town and region about the site. We’re so pleased about the positive response, and you are directly to thank for that.

In addition, February has already become ML’s highest traffic month. As of yesterday, the site had already had more than 7,158 pageviews this month! We look forward to growing with you in the days ahead.

As usual, we depend upon you for help with stories and ideas, so keep ’em coming! Many of the stories you read were ideas submitted by others.

Next Monday through Wednesday, we hope to present you with an exciting feature. More about that soon! We’ll be sending out an email alert with the news about the feature in it first. If you’d like your business or group to advertise in the email newsletter, it’s only $25 for the ad! It’s also limited to the first two advertisers.

Again, thanks for your participation in MonticelloLive! It’s truly a community website!

Hi, Jeff. CONGRATULATIONS on the new record. Hopefully, it will keep growing as our community becomes more involved. By the way, somebody with a little knowledge and expertise on things internet ought to research the cost to the city to provide free broadband internet to the entire city. Now, you talk about community development!! Wow! What kind of image do you suppose that would project of our community? Bet new businesses looking for a place to set-up would take a second look at Monticello. There are a few communities that do this for their citizens. We could be on the leading edge – IF it was affordable. Only a little research is needed to tell us.

  2. Jeff says:

    Great idea. We’re on it.

  3. TJ says:

youre probably talking about @3500/month for 12mbps worth of t-1 internet service to be shared over a public wifi network. You could give up to 768mbps of download and it should be okay. You’d also need some professional wifi gear – and it’s not cheap.

I’d say it could be paid for by advertisers on the portal page (the page that would always load when you opened your browser after connecting to the public wifi network) – but advertising is VERY difficult to sell in Monticello.

  4. Tim Beckham says:

Hmmmm. You make some good points, TJ. Also, we’d probably have to get the Arkansas State Legislature involved, since it seems they’ve passed a bill, supported by Verizon, that “prohibits municipal entities from providing basic local exchange services.” That is according the website “FreePress”. If you go there, check out the map of states that have free community internet. Every state around us has some communities with Community Internet. We are in a hole! No wonder people say Arkansas is not developed. Might be worthwhile asking our legislative representative some questions at the Legislative Update meeting. Chamber of Commerce, 3pm, Friday. All of our Reps and Senators are planning to be there. Seems to me, Monticello is a perfectly sized and located community to benefit from WiFi. Wonder what its’ status is at Paragould?
