The University of Arkansas at Monticello Boll Weevils football team took Gulf South Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, as Scott Buisson picked up offensive honors and Scooter White picked up defensive honors for the week ending October 27.
Buisson is the second consecutive UAM player to earn Offensive honors this season, claiming his second award after leading the Boll Weevils to a 44-36 win at West Alabama in the GSC-TV Game of the Week. The Weevils entered the game without the services of last week’s honoree, running back John L. Williams, but the freshman more than made up for the absence of the league’s leading rusher. Buisson had a hand in all six of UAM’s touchdowns, throwing four TDs and running two more. Buisson completed 78.1 percent of his passes (25-of-32) for 308 yards, while also rushing for 126 yards on 22 carries for a 5.7 per carry average. The victory moved UAM’s league record to the .500 mark.

White is the second straight Boll Weevil defensive player to capture laurels this season, following Solomon Edwards last week. The junior was all over the field for UAM, collecting seven total tackles led by six solo stops, two for a loss of 11 yards and one sack for nine yards. White also excelled in pass defense, grabbing two interceptions and breaking up one pass. His second interception came at an opportune time, halting the Tigers attempt to tie the game on its final drive.

The Boll Weevils will return to action this Saturday against eleventh-ranked Valdosta State University. Kickoff from Convoy Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium is set for 6 p.m. Saturday. Tailgating will begin at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on KHBM-FM 93.7 in Monticello, and simulcast online at www.uamsports.com.
