UAM’s freshman quarterback, Scott Buisson, will be honored at the fourth annual Little Rock Touchdown Club Banquet as the UAM Player of the Year on Thursday, Jan. 10 at 7 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Little Rock.

The Little Rock Touchdown Club honors each Arkansas college or university that plays football with a banquet to honor each school’s player of the year. Along with the honors from the state collegiate level, the LRTDC honors the Arkansas Democrat Gazette High School Player and Coach of the Year from each classification, awards the Southeastern Conference’s best offensive and defensive player, and honors the SEC Coach of the Year. The second annual Paul Eels award will also be presented at the banquet.

Buisson (5-10, Metairie, La.) needed no more than one season to make an impact in the Gulf South Conference. After completing 214 passes for 2,359 yards and 16 touchdowns and netting 567 rushing yards with six touchdowns, Buisson has balanced the UAM offense – evident in the final team statistics standings. UAM’s rushing offense finished the season No. 1 in the GSC, while the total offense was third best. After such an outstanding season, the conference office honored Buisson by naming him the GSC Freshman of the Year for the 2007 season.

“(Buisson) is huge for the Weevils,” said UAM’s third year head coach Gwaine Mathews. “Scott can do it all…He is a leader, a winner and a battler, and he proved himself this year.”

Before becoming a Boll Weevil, Buisson was the Louisiana Football Coaches Association All-State Most Valuable Player coming from Archbishop Rummel High School. Also at ARHS, he earned All-District, All-Metro, All-East Jefferson Parrish and All-Catholic honors while being named an honorable mention for the Louisiana Sportswriters All-State team. He was the starting quarterback for Louisiana in the Bayou Bowl (Louisiana All-Stars vs. Texas All-Stars) and was named the bowl’s offensive MVP.

Other athletes expected to be honored at the banquet are two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up Darren McFadden from Arkansas, Nathan Brown from Central Arkansas, Chris Gunter from Arkansas Tech, Kurt Kutscher from Henderson State, Willie Hopson from Ouachita Baptist, C.J. Ellis from Southern Arkansas, Tim Turner from Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Larry Jenkins from Arkansas Baptist, Harlon Hill Trophy finalist David Knighton from Harding and Tyrell Johnson from Arkansas State.
