One day after earning Gulf South Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors, University of Arkansas at Monticello quarterback Scott Buisson (Fr., Metairie, La.) has been named national Offensive Player of the Week by d2football.com. The award recognizes the top weekly offensive performance in all of Division II.

Buisson is joined by Defensive Player of the Week Mike Williams of Charleston and Special Teams Player of the week Paul Potemra of Bemidji (Minn.) State.

Buisson completed 27 of 45 passes for 484 yards and four touchdowns, while rushing for 86 yards and one touchdown on 15 carries in the Boll Weevils’ 48-32 victory over Harding this past Saturday. Two of Buisson’s touchdown passes were 70 yards or longer, as he connected with wide receiver Tim Harris (Jr., Kansas City, Mo.) for touchdown strikes of 80 and 72 yards.

The Boll Weevils set new school records for first downs this week with 31, and Buisson broke the UAM record for passing yards by a freshman, previously held by Kevin McCarn, who passed for 357 yards as a freshman against Henderson State in 1997.

“For Scott to be selected as a national Player of the Week is a tremendous honor for both Scott and our entire program,” said University of Arkansas at Monticello head coach Gwaine Mathews. “Any time a quarterback earns national Player of the Week honors it’s really an award for everyone on the offensive side of the ball. We had four receivers with over 75 yards, and two over 100. It was an outstanding effort by the whole team and a well-deserved honor for Scott.”

The Boll Weevils will return to action Saturday, September 29, as they travel to face the University of Missouri-Rolla. Kickoff from Allgood-Bailey Stadium is set for 6:30 p.m
