Dr. Morris Bramlett, professor of chemistry and a member of the University of Arkansas at Monticello faculty for 16 years, has been named dean of the UAM School of Mathematical and Natural Science.

Bramlett replaces Dr. John Annulis, who retired in May after 35 years on the UAM faculty and nine years as dean of math and science.

“We feel extremely fortunate to have Dr. Bramlett assume leadership of the School of Mathematical and Natural Science,” said R. David Ray, provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. “The temptation when filling a position like this one is to search everywhere for a replacement, but in this case we didn’t have to look far. The most qualified candidate was already here.”

Bramlett is a two-time winner of the UAM Faculty Excellence Gold Award, presented annually to the school’s outstanding faculty member. In addition to serving on the faculty, Bramlett is faculty advisor for the pre-pharmacy program, a member of the pre-med committee, honors council and athletic committee, and has served as both NCAA faculty athletics representative and NCAA compliance coordinator.

He is a past chairman of the Ouachita Valley Section of the American Chemical Society and is a past winner of the A.W. Cordes Teaching Award, presented to the outstanding graduate teaching assistant by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Bramlett is a native of Clinton, Arkansas and a 1981 graduate of Clinton High School. He holds a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Arkansas Tech and a Ph.D. in organometallic chemistry from UA-Fayetteville.

He began his teaching career as an instructor of physical science and chemistry at Arkansas State University-Beebe in 1992-93. Bramlett was an instructor of chemistry at UAM in 1991-92, assistant professor from 1993-97, associate professor from 1998-2005, and was named a full professor in 2005.

During a sabbatical from UAM, Bramlett was a Research Science Education in Chemistry (RSEC) Fellow and visiting faculty in chemistry at the University of Tennessee in 2000, and RSEC Fellow and visiting faculty in chemistry at Berea College in 2001.

Bramlett is the son of Jo and the late Martin Bramlett of Clinton, He and his wife, Amanda, have one child, Abigail.
