Boys & Girls Club Board Meeting Report
Published by Joe Burgess February 19th, 2008 in Clubs. The Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Drew County, Inc., held a regular meeting on Tuesday, February 19. The Board members present included Tiffany Berryman, Michelle Chapman, Bettye Gragg, Ken Harper, Thomas Shorter and Tom Wingard. Staff member LaToya Martin was also in attendance to provide an insider’s prospective.
The Board discussed the fundraising effort by the First Assembly of God Church and Rev. Womack. The Board agreed that its membership should undertake efforts to promote the event. Michelle Chapman announced that the Monticello Speedway will provide family passes with the proceeds benefiting the Club. Tiffany Berryman announced that Wells Fargo will support the Club with donations for a cookout and a “sharp advantage” donation program. Thomas Shorter announced that he and his group will donate a cookout for the Club. The Club has recently received over $4,200 from local efforts. The Board and the Club’s members thank all who have helped and who have pledged support.
The Club reopened on February 11 and has averaged 35-40 Club members daily, a number that will soon return to the 65 average daily attendees. The volunteer and regular staff has been thus far adequate to support the attendance. Of course, more volunteers are welcome. The tutoring program has started again with Cindy Hudgens’ effort.
The Board voted to address the historically nominal annual dues. Members’ dues had been set at $20 annually. Given the financial circumstance of the Club, the dues will now be $20 per family per month, an increase that will bring the Club more in line with statewide norms.
The Board will attend the City Council meeting on Thursday to update the Club’s progress.
The following were elected as Board officers: Ken Harper as President, Tom Wingard as Vice-President, Tiffany Berryman as Sec./ Tres., and Michelle Chapman as fundriasing committee chairperson.
The next Board meeting is Tuesday, Feb. 26, at noon, at the Club, City Park School. The public is, as always, welcome.
