Boys & Girls Club Board Meeting Report

The Board of Directors of the Boys & Girls Club of Drew County met Tuesday night at the Club.  Board members present included Michelle Chapman, Bettye Gragg, Ken Harper, and Thomas Shorter.  Also present were LaToya Martin from Americorp and Nancy Chapman.  The following business was addressed.

1.   The First Assembly of God Church fundraiser was addressed.  The Board thanks        Rev. Womack,  the Church and the community for their effort and support.  The support will benefit a good group of kids.

2.   The Club hours will remain 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. during the school year pursuant to national Club rules.

3.   The Monticello Speedway has provided for the Club “family passes” that are on sale for the cost of $20.  All proceeds are for the Club.  The Board thanks the Monticello Speedway.

4.   Thomas Shorter advised that a cook-out his team will do is tentatively planned for May 2 and possibly August 1 at Wal-Mart.  Additionally, Michelle Chapman advised of a matching grant from Wal-Mart of $500.  Other cook-out/dinner fundraisers were addressed with dates to be addressed in the future.

5.  The annual contract with the City of Monticello was confirmed at the last City Council meeting.  The Board addressed issues directed at performing that contract.  Applications for employment opportunities will be available at the Club.

6.  The Board has changed the membership dues.  For a decade the annual dues have been $20 or less.  Beginning March 1, the monthly dues will be $20 per month bringing the Club dues in line with club dues statewide.
The next Board meeting is Tuesday, March 18, at 6:00 pm at the Club. The public is, as always, welcome.
