Blossoms Sweep Wiley in Home-Opener
Published by UAM News September 3rd, 2008 in UAM Sports. The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team opened its home portion of the 2008 schedule with a three-game sweep over Wiley College with final scores of 25-22, 25-22 and 26-24.“We are really playing well as a team right now,” said fourth-year head coach Nicole Smith. “That shows how unselfish we are, and I can only hope that this carries throughout the season.”
The Blossoms combined for 46 kills in the match, but they were all spread out. Senior Taura Rush (5-11, OH, Joseph city, Ariz.), junior Mallory Storm (5-11, MB, Collinsville, Ill.) and junior Nicole Ferguson (5-10, RS, Brentwood, Tenn.) all had eight kills each, while leading the team with nine was junior Cayla Knapp (6-0, MB, South Lake Tahoe, Calif.).
Senior Meagan Martin (5-5, S, Burnet, Texas) led both teams in assists with 38, which was three times as much as the leading setter for the Lady Wilcats.
Sophomore Stephanie Hatten (5-4, L, Baytown, Texas) turned in another strong performance from the back row with 16 digs and only one reception error.
The Blossoms (4-1) hit the road for the next two weeks, playing in the Montevallo Classic this weekend, followed by the Harding Invitational next weekend.
