The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split a Gulf South Conference double header with division rival Delta State with final scores of 5-2 in favor of the Blossoms in the first game, and 7-5 in favor of the Lady Statesmen in the second game.

UAM 5, Delta State 2

After forcing the game into an extra inning, the Blossoms used three consecutive solo home runs from senior Jenny Dunn (Adelaide, Australia), senior Kate Brady (Longview, Texas), and sophomore Kayla Temple (Downsville, La.) to gain a three-run advantage over the Lady Statesmen that held to give the Blossoms a win in the GSC opener.

Junior Becca Sustaire (Hallsville, Texas) got the win for the Blossoms, pitching the full eight innings, allowing two runs off eight hits and walking none of the 33 batters she faced. Sustaire moves to 4-7 on the season.

Delta State 7, UAM 5

Despite jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Blossoms dropped the second game of the twin bill as Delta State used a two-run first inning and a four-run third inning to gain a comfortable lead.

Junior Lindsey Randall (Keithville, La.) brought the Blossoms back to within one run with her RBI-single down the left field line in the top of the fourth inning that scored senior Gemma Gibson (Dodd City, Texas), who was hit by a pitch, then moved over to third on two wild pitches.

The Lady Statesmen answered with one run in the bottom half of the inning, which finalized the scoring.

Brady (3-5) got the loss for the Blossoms after pitching two and one third innings, allowing six runs off seven hits.

With the split, the Blossoms move to 7-15 overall this season and 1-1 in the GSC. UAM travels to Christian Brothers on Tuesday, March 18 for a GSC double header starting at 1 p.m.
