Blossoms Give Harding All They Can Handle in Losing Effort
Published by UAM News October 8th, 2008 in UAM Sports.The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team suffered its second Gulf South Conference defeat of the season in a hard-fought match on the road against Harding. The Lady Bisons won 3-2.
Final games scores were 20-25, 27-25, 14-25, 25-22 and 10-15.
The Blossoms (14-9, 2-2 GSC) forced the match to five games after posting its match high hitting percentage of .238 in the second game, and then another solid performance in the fourth game with a team percentage of .143.
Junior Jalynn Thornton (6-1, Pleasant Grove, Utah) led UAM in the loss with 15 kills and a match hitting percentage of .289 after committing only four errors on 38 total attempts.
Junior Mallory Storm (5-11, Collinsville, Ill.) and senior Taura Rush (5-10, Joseph City, Ariz.) both had good performances as well with 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Storm had the team’s best percentage at .296.
Three Blossoms reached double-digits in defensive digs. Sophomore Stephanie Hatten (5-4, Baytown, Texas) led the category with 24, while Rush followed with 20. Senior Meagan Martin (5-5, Burnet, Texas) turned in 14, while also leading UAM with 43 set assists.
The Blossoms continue GSC play Thursday, October 9, when the team hosts Arkansas Tech for the GSC Volleyball “Match of the Week” starting at 2 p.m. at Steelman Fieldhouse. Arkansas Tech is currently the GSC West leader with an overall record of 17-3 and an unblemished 4-0 GSC mark.
