Blossoms’ Dunn wins second consecutive Player of the Week award
Published by Jeff March 15th, 2007 in News, Schools. The University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms softball program has picked up its fourth consecutive Gulf South Conference-West Division Player of the Week award, and the second consecutive award for outfielder Jenny Dunn (Jr., Adelaide, Australia), who has been named Player of the Week for the week ending March 11.
Dunn followed last week’s fantastic performance where she hit .600 on 12-of-20 hitting, scoring seven runs while driving in nine and posting a 1.200 slugging percentage with an even better performance this week, hitting .714 at the plate on 10-of-14 hitting with two doubles, one triple, and three home runs. The junior posted a 1.643 slugging percentage for the week.
“Jenny’s performance so far this season has been nothing short of fantastic,” said Cotton Blossoms head coach Alvy Early. “We’ve had a total team effort on offense this season. No matter who has won the award for us over the last four weeks, we’ve had at least one or two other players, sometimes more, who put together weeks that any other time might have gotten them recognized. We have to make sure that we stay focused and keep hitting, because the most important part of the season is what’s ahead of us; and what we did last week or the week before isn’t going to help us win games next week.”
Dunn follows catcher/right fielder Becca Tipton (Fr., Dermott, Ark.) and first baseman Meredith Heckel (Jr., Hot Springs, Ark.), who have also won Player of the Week honors during UAM’s string of consecutive awards.
