picture-1.pngThe Gulf South Conference has tabbed University of Arkansas at Monticello catcher Becca Tipton (Fr., Dermott, Ark.) as the Gulf South Conference-West Division Player of the Week, for the week ending April 25, 2007. The award is Tipton’s second of the season, and marks the fifth time in six weeks that a UAM player has earned player of the week honors.

Tipton had another huge week for the Cotton Blossoms, hitting .391 and leading UAM to a 4-2 record against GSC-West opposition. The freshman hit for power, connecting for six extra-base hits including a home run in a 10-2 win over Christian Brothers.

“Becca has most definitely been a consistent hitter for us all season,” said Cotton Blossoms head coach Alvy Early. “She has continued to perform at a high level through the start of conference play and we hope she will continue to play well for us as we approach the most crucial parts of our schedule.”

The Cotton Blossoms will return to action on Wednesday, March 28, facing Mississippi Valley State in a single non-conference contest at Blossoms Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
