Governor Mike Beebe Friday authorized up to $250,000 from  Arkansas’s Emergency Response Fund for potential state response to Tropical Storm Gustav, expected to make landfall as a strong hurricane on the Gulf Coast next week.
As part of a standing, reciprocal agreement with Lousiana, Arkansas will house up to 4,000 evacuees at Fort Chaffee if needed.  Governor Beebe spoke Friday afternoon with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, reaffirming Arkansas’s support to Louisiana.
“Our agencies, including Emergency Management and the National Guard, have been in constant communication for the past few days, and I have received frequent updates and participated in conference calls,” Governor Beebe said. “I’ve told Governor Jindal that Arkansas is ready to help, and we’re keeping everyone in our thoughts as we track Gustav in the coming days.”

I’m constantly watching The Weather Channel to see where this storm is going.Right now, it is a Category 3 Hurricane with winds in excess of 125mph. It is expected to come ashore Sunday in the vicinity of New Orleans and Biloxi. The have already started evacuating people and also have buses and trains on standby to move those that need help. The gas stations are overrun with cars waiting in line to fuel up and head out of the area. The governor has also made the statement to leave as soon as you can..but if you decide to ride this thing out, please be sure to board up all windows and doors. Especially if you are preparing to leave. I still remember all of the people that we helped when Katrina hit.. but as the great town we are, we’re ready to help any way that we can. I’m sure that all of the churches in this area, are getting ready as they did before. Let’s just continue to pray for all of these people that are being effected by this storm.. May they all be protected from harm..
