March 30th, 2009 by Drew County Offices
The Drew County Cooperative Extension Service conducted a two-day Babysitting Basics course during Spring Break. Eleven youth completed the course. The participants learned the basic information about acquiring babysitting jobs and how to manage their money. They also learned the basic principles of child development, appropriate toys for young children, as well as safety precautions and emergency procedures. Each participants also learned how to prepare their own “babysitter’s activity bag”. This would provide them with activities to soothe children as parents leave as well as provide something new and different for the child to play with during the babysitting period. All the participants made a boo-boo bunny for their activity bag. This bunny cushions an ice cube and can be used to help treat a minor bump or cut.
