The City of Monticello’s Tree Board will host a Tree Care Clinic on Friday & Saturday August 14-15, at the Rhythm and Roots Festival, City Park,to help residents with questions regarding trees and tree care.Â
Monticello’s Tree Board will be on hand at this year’s Rhythm and Roots festival to provide expert advice on trees and tree care. Citizens are encouraged to visit the booth sponsored by Commercial Bank and the MEDC at this year’s festival.
In conjunction with the advice, Monticello is beginning a Heritage tree program. The Heritage Tree Program will recognize Monticello’s champion, historic, famous, and unusual trees. Trees listed under this recognition program receive no official or legal protection or preservation. Participation in this program is strictly voluntary. The tree owner’s permission is required for nomination
Monticello’s Heritage Tree Program is patterned after the Arkansas Famous and Historic Tree Program and Arkansas Champion Tree Program, which are administered by the Arkansas Forestry Commission. Tree nomination criteria have already been established for those programs, so it will then be easier to also nominate trees in Monticello for the statewide programs. Details and nomination forms will be available at the festival for interested parties.
The City of Monticello will be providing curbside pick-up of limbs due to the recent tornado that passed thru the area.
Please reduce the length of the limbs to 6′and the diameter to 6″. Place the limbs in stacks, close to the curb.
Call the city at 367-3415 and provide us with the addresses where the limbs are stacked so we can arrange for a pick-up.
Please allow the city time for the pick-ups after they have been called in due to the extent of damage in the area.
The next Tree board meeting will be Monday, March 23 at 4:30 PM.
The meeting will be held at the MEDC building.
Agenda items will include: Tree City USA awarding, Trees for Students, Tree planting/city needs, tree survey updates, and school participation in future ceremonies. Please let me know if there are other items you would like to address at the meeting.
