Artist Paul Maxwell To Give Talk, Display Art At UAM November 13
Published by UAM News November 8th, 2007 in UAM News.Noted artist Paul Maxwell will give a gallery talk and display 16 pieces of artwork next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Spencer Gallery of the University of Arkansas at Monticello Fine Arts Center. The event is free and open to the public.
Maxwell, a native of Ashley County, has achieved international recognition for his work. Maxwell’s collections may be found in galleries and museums throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia. Maxwell’s work may be found in the Arkansas Arts Center in Little Rock, the Araluen Centre for the Arts in Australia, the Canton Art Institute, the Dallas Museum of Fine Art, the Denver Art Museum, the Fort Worth Art Center, the Houston Museum of Fine Arts, and the Philbrook Art Center in Tulsa, Okla.Maxwell earned a degree in art from Principia College and attended graduate school at Claremont College. Maxwell taught at the Houston Museum of Art and the University of Houston and later invented and patented his own printmaking medium.
In 1986, he was the subject of a PBS documentary entitled “Lines/Horizons.” A traveling exhibition of Maxwell’s work, sponsored by the American-Australian Bicentennial Foundation and the Austin-Fairchild Art Foundation served as an official event in Australia’s 1988 bicentennial celebration.
California art collector Sandra Lawhon recently presented 13 original works of art by Maxwell to the university.
