Armed Robbery at Monticello Sonic, Sunday Night, Leaves Workers Tied Up inside Business

May 31st, 2011 by

According to reports, at 10:39, Sunday night, Monticello Police Dispatch received a 911 call from the Sonic drive-in, reporting an armed robbery where the manager and an employee were confronted by an unidentified black male, wearing a black hoodie and other dark clothing, carrying a gun.

The man tied up the two workers (who had just closed the restaurant and turned off the outside lights) and left them in the back of the business.

Monticello Police, Arkansas State Police, and a Drew County Sheriff’s Deputy quickly responded to the scene, but the subject had already fled from the area.  No direction or method of travel was determined.   Sources report that no one was injured in the robbery.

Anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area, please contact the Monticello Police at 367-3411.

  1. Nana says:

Hope the law catches this low-life. Some people stand on their feet and work for a living, clean the place up and prepare to go home, shower and fall into bed, dead tired. Other people can lay up all day and come alive at bedtime to get out and rogue, steal and aim guns at poor working folks–putting them in fear for their lives. A dog tick is of more value to society than this predator is, and much less dangerous. May this miserable blood sucker be taken of the streets quickly.

  2. Stacy Cater says:

I’m glad no one was hurt. You officers stay safe out there.

  3. Ladybugg says:

How many times has this sonic been robbed?

  4. DAS says:

    Way to say it Nana!!!!!….

  5. kim carnahan says:

This person needs to find a real job !! So sad that we go to work everyday earning our way .. And one man who can’t seem to find a real job , has to go out and do this crime .. Bless those 2 employee’s .. This world sure has gotten bad !! .. Where’s the honesty and respect gone too ?

  6. Terrie Briant says:

What a shame someone would do this. I agree with Stacy and Nana. I’m glad no one was hurt and I hope this person is apprehended soon. Now these people won’t be able to go to work without fear. I bet after what he did (not being identified yet) he’ll be over there getting Sonic food knowing he just robbed the place, to see if police are closer to catching him. He’d be that heartless and stupid. Some of them do that when they know there’s no way they can be identified as the perpetrator just to taunt the victims. Hopefully he’s caught soon.

  7. BigMama Adams says:

it’s a pity that there people like this..thieving is not a good or honest trait..the MAN upstairs will smite the fellow..if u wanna get ahead in life be honest and u get what u give..hugz n prayers to the sonic workers that were in harms way

  8. hello says:

just tie a knot and hang on you haven’t seen anything yet!

  9. amber glosup says:

This same thing happened to Subway in Warren a few weeks ago!!

  10. Tired of this place says:

I’m telling you folks. It’s only going to get worse around here with these “thugs” over-populating this town. I’m moving up north where there aren’t nearly as many.

  11. Kim Kardashian says:

Wow, I didnt think that Monticello was such a bad place. Oh well, so much for me giving the Drew Central School District the grant they asked for!

  12. pamela griffin says:

    RE: Kim Kardashian’s remarks
Monticello is a great hometown; a place where everyone knows each other. People wave at each other and if you break down…someone is going to stop and ask if you need some help..This tells me that this man how robbed sonic was just passing through…since no one knows who he is…Monticello has been my hometown all of my life…There is no other place on this Earth that I would have rather raised my children. It is not a BAD PLACE. Sometime bad things just happen. I really hope that you don’t let this effect your decision for the grant for Drew Central School District…This school really needs some help. There are mostly children who live out in the country which attend this school…please reconsider your decision..it is for our children
