Beginning Aug. 13, five lucky hunters will be drawn for a special youth deer hunt in southeast Arkansas. The hunt is being sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Mack’s Prairie Wings, Arkansas Hunters Feeding the Hungry and KARK TV.Over 1 million fish stocked in Arkansas’s waters
Arkansas Game and Fish Commission crews stocked over 1 million fish in Arkansas lakes and rivers during July, according to Mike Armstrong, chief of fisheries. The total stocking of fish weighed in excess of 55,800 pounds.
Mobility impaired hunting applications due Aug. 15
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is taking applications through Aug. 15 for special 2008 deer and duck hunts designed to provide accessibility to hunters whose mobility is permanently or severely impaired by paralysis or amputation.
Coal Hill Small Game Cooperative Area formed
Littering, illegal dumping and habitat destruction from off road vehicle traffic are prompting agencies responsible for the Dardanelle Wildlife Management Area to construct two gates to control unauthorized traffic just west of Black Point Island. Taking it a big step further, the agencies will form the Coal Hill Small Game Cooperative Area.
Carl Hunter had double impact on Arkansas outdoors
Conservationist Carl G. Hunter achieved prominence in two branches of the Arkansas outdoors - its fauna and its flora. Activities with wildflowers of the state made him a household name across the state and beyond its borders after his retirement as a wildlife biologist.
Arkansas youth shooting teams win gold and silve
Like a prelude to Olympic shooting events, more than 1,600 young shotgunners competed this week for medals and national honors at the Scholastic Clay Target Program Trap National Championships.

Oct. 24-26 - Want to learn more about trapping? A workshop is being held Oct. 24-26 to give interested people tips and techniques for trapping in Arkansas. The workshop is sponsored by the Arkansas Trappers Association, Southwest Arkansas Fur Takers, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and North American Fur Auctions. Both advanced and beginner classes will be available. The workshop will be held at Camp Clearfork near Mount Ida on Highway 270. Lodging and meals are provided. Camping facilities and motels are located nearby as well. Groups are welcome. The cost for those 17 years of age and under is $10. For those 18 and over the price is $20.
