Another Wreck at 425 & New 35, Tuesday Night
Published by Joe Burgess August 27th, 2008 in WRECKS.The most popular scene for wrecks in recent weeks is the intersection of the New HWY 35 and 425 North. Upon arriving at the scene, it appreared that the driver of this Mazda Tribute had traveled around 75 yards after running the stop sign on HWY 35, and crossing HWY 425, as shown in the photo above, But actually it was later told that she’d driven into a creek that runs across a nearby field, while trying to find her way out of the cattle pasture.
No one was injured. The Drew County Sheriff’s Dept. worked the wreck. Triple A provided the towing service. Last but not least, the owner of the field was called out to assist, and stayed to repair the fence next to the intersection (again).

looks like a case of driver error
With all of the accidents and untold near accidents, maybe there should be caution lights flashing to help warn drivers. I don’t know what else could be done with all of the paint on the road, signs, etc.
This may not solve the problem either. It could just be driver related issues and not due to lack of prevention.
I hope the highway dept is paying for the farmer to fix the fence and not making this poor guy foot the bill for all these wrecks!!
It sounds like the AR Hwy Dept needs to add the additional notices of the upcoming STOP sign like they have on the opposite end of Hwy 35. I think there are 2 different sets of strips to alert the driver they are approaching a STOP sign.
The next case of driver error may be when a vehicle is driving down 425 and the 35 vehicle runs that stop sign and hits them, then what.. What the city or state should think about are the white noise makers or speed bumps to let the driver know there is a stop ahead..Just a thought.. We do pay for all of this anyways.
OK so this is not exactly a stop that you dont see the stop sign, there are warnings that there is a stop sign ahead if drivers would pay attention they way see them. i have been traveling that road years before they ever had the intersection there, so i was no surprise to me when i went down the road for the 1st time and surprise there was a stop sign.
I just dont understand how people can not see it. i am sick of reading all these we should do this and that by the intersection so people could see it…. it’s not hard to see if people would just get off the phone and pay attention to what they are doing “DRIVING” and see the very visible stop sign.
Sorry for the vent and if i offended anyone sorry but that is just how i feel. Pay attention and we wouldn’t have this problem.

oh i forgot to mention this i do think the person who has the accident should be responible for the damages done to the property. it would be different if the stop sign was hidden by trees or a bush thta would be the highway departments fault, but in this case that is not the problem.

Ashley, I hope you are not traveling on Hwy 425 North or South and someone run that very stop sign, I think it would be a problem then…….
There should be something put on the road to warn unaware drivers of the up coming stop sign, just to prevent someone getting killed!!
In response to the accidents happening at the intersection of Hwy 425 & 35 there maybe be plenty of signs for people to see but, there is still a problem. I know because I live at this intersection and have been woken up several nights because of the accidents taken place. However, I didn’t ask for the highway to run right by my property but it does ! ! And ever time there is an accident I hold my breath hoping and praying that when we go out to check on them there is not a fatality. That is my one fear that I’m not ready to deal with. And as far as the damages to the properties, as far as I know those are ususally covered by the drivers insurance company. Sorry to unload also !
People are going to make mistakes, and we are required to have liability insurance for a reason! (I have full coverage! :) ) I do agree, however, that this guy shouldn’t have to repeatedly fix his fence, just because he lives in an area where the state decided to do all this road work.
im sure when the state put this new road in that they had to meet regulations and things. like sings, paint, the width of each lane and so on. So im sure they have done thier part. Now as drivers we have to do our part and read the sings stay on our side of the road and STOPPPPPPPP when the sing says stop. maybe this lady was following her gps system and they didnt know there was a stop sing there,or maybe she was on the phone talking away and didnt pay attion to the sing or maybe and most likey she was driving way to fast. I mean thats a pretty far distants to come to a stop after you know you just ran a stop sing.
Well Resident
I am completely aware that the road is there. I guess it someone hit me and i was traveling in that direction it would be a problem, however, i know the intersection is there.
But then again what good is a stop sign or a stop light for that matter if we are so scared when we come to some type of intersection. it is pretty much the same case!! i shouldn’t have to worry when i come to an intersection or not if someone is going to run it they should stop at the stop sign or stop light.. so the answer to your question resident is…. if people would follow the law and not speed or stop when they are suppose to then there wouldn’t be a problem
why should the hwy dept pay for the fence their not the one tearring it down. The people running the stop sing should have to pay for it and help put it back up. Has anyone ever asked these drivers if they feel its thier fault or the hwy. dept. fault. But im sure they want addmit to fault.
Well I live on hwy 35 and i know for a fact it is hard to see because it is so dark. There are no lights or anything at this intersection. There should be. I do think whoever ran over the fence should pay for it or put it back up but i also think the road department should do something to make it more noticeable.
