Churches, community and school organizations are needed to ring bells for the 13th Annual Drew County Salvation Army Drive beginning Saturday, November 24th.
“We are getting a late start this year having lost our chairperson to a move and need the cooperation of the community in quickly responding to our immediate need for volunteers,” Justin Miller and Brandi Smith, co-chairpersons, said.
Open dates to ring are Fridays , Saturday and Sundays from November 24 th through December 23 rd. Organizations will need 16 ringers to fill a full day Friday and Saturdays starting at 9 a.m. With the last ringer working from 4 to 5 p.m. Sundays ringers will fill the hours of noon to 5 p.m. at each door and will ring until 5 p.m. A total of 10 volunteers will fill the day. “Some ringers choose to take two-hour shifts in organizations with fewer members,” Miller and Smith said.
Organizations like Drew Memorial Hospital; Commercial and Union Banks; St. Mark’s Catholic, First Methodist, Rock Springs Methodist, First Presbyterian, First Assembly of God, Holms Chapel Presbyterian, Rose Hills Baptist Churches; UAM, Drew Central and Monticello scholarship, business and band and pep squads as well as Optimist, Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs have volunteered over the years.
“We are hoping these groups will help us make our 13 th year’s drive a success. Please call Justin Miller at 460-5460 and leave your name and number soon as possible if your group can ring. We are getting a late start in the midst of reorganizing and your quick response is essential to help us be ready,” Millerand Smith said.

Rose Hill Cumberland Presbyterian has helped with the kettle drive for about 10 or 12 years. We enjoy it. We always see lots of old friends while ringing the bell. It is very rewarding to know we are helping those in our community who need assistance with basic needs. It is one of the ways we try to spread God’s love.
My two boys and I have helped ring the bells since they were little. I just would not be Christmas time without doing this tradition.
